We’re letting him have the keys on this one!…..Meanwhile, I so wish I was going to Park City next week! Just one day after it came out that Dave Grohl had enlisted Stone Sour‘s Corey Taylor to sing as part of his Sound City Players at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Jan 18th, additional music stars have been confirmed for the gig. Also joining Grohl that night will be all the members of his band Foo Fighters, the surviving members of his previous group Nirvana, plus Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Rick Springfield, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, drummer Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine and several others, with more guests yet to be announced. The show sold out within minutes of going on sale Wednesday (Jan 9th) and will celebrate the premiere — earlier in the day on the 18th — of Sound City: Real To Reel, a new documentary produced and directed by Grohl. I have to wait til he does his thing at SXSW this year and I am getting antsy! May have to buy the DVD ahead of time. I know I won’t be able to wait til mid-March!….Alice In Chains has released the official <a href="” target=”_blank”>music video for “Hollow,” the first song issued from the band’s upcoming fifth studio album. The clip follows the day-to-day routine of a scientist working alone in a space station, with his mental and physical state gradually breaking down due to the effects of his isolation. The new clip follows a fan-made lyrics video for the song that came out last month, in which images submitted by fans through Instagram were matched to snippets of the lyrics that the band posted online. Meanwhile, Jerry Cantrell got a new haircut. Not sure if he did it himself or let a girlfriend do it, but good thing hair keeps growing. Me and another girlfriend noticed it. This is what girls do…..Pulse Content reports Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has revealed some of the inspiration for House Of Gold And Bones, the band’s two-part concept album which is also being spun off into a four-part comic book series this spring. Taylor told Comic Book Resources the themes of the sci-fi story draw heavily on his own life, explaining, “I had an ideal of who I wanted to be as a man and I realized who I was at the time didn’t exactly jibe with what that idea was. So I started the process of changing for the better — it took me a long time, but I feel like I’m a lot closer than I ever was to who I want to be.” He added, “(House Of Gold And Bones) is loaded with that journey, but it also has a lot of pieces from my friends’ lives — some are a lot more ahead of the curve than others, but we are all doing the same thing: trying to figure it all out. That’s why I wanted to tell the story in the first place — to put it all in perspective and find my place in it all.”….OK, spoke with David Draiman, and surprise guests drummer (Evanescence) Will Hunt and guitarist (formerly of Dope) Virus. They were at Warner Records in Burbank, and it was so cool to get the skinny on Device! First off, it will be a trio! Secondly, “Vilify” is the first single and it’s coming in early Feb. The album, self titled, is a spring release. I plan to see them in Austin at SXSW in March! Besides the music (and I’ve heard it, it’s really good) with these talented fellows (BTW Geno Lenardo, produced & played guitar on the album, and I’ll get to him in a bit), the special guests are a who’s-who of rock! Tom Morello is on a track called “Opinion.” Serj Tankian (solo and System of a Down) and Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath are on “Out of Line,” M Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold is on “Haze” and Lzzy Hale does a duet with David that is OFF THE HOOK doing “If I Close My Eyes Forever,” and David told me Lita Ford heard it and gave it her stamp of approval. (I told David he needs to give me a little credit for planting the seed with him on Lzzy. I knew they would do something amazing together!) There’s also a track with featuring Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple fame. It’s gonna be a great record for sure. Meanwhile, this whole thing started when Geno was producing the last Underworld soundtrack, and asked David if he would contribute a song. The rest is history. Geno will not be a part of the touring band, although he does play guitar on the album. David said Will Hunt’s invite was a no-brainer since Will has to be one of the top 10 rock drummers there is! I didn’t have time to get with Virus and what the skinny is with Dope, but I will next time we talk. Suffice to say there is ample electricity being generated with this project. I know Warner Bros can’t wait to roll it out!…..Nine Inch Nails main man Trent Reznor has been named Chief Creative Officer of Daisy, a new music streaming service being launched by Beats Electronics, the Dr. Dre-owned company that makes Beats By Dre headphones and other gear. According to Spin, Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine announced the service and Reznor’s appointment on a Thursday (Jan 10th) conference call, saying Reznor will play a large role in Daisy’s design and the “connection between the artist and the consumer.” Reznor explained in a December interview with The New Yorker the service would help listeners find music they like through a less random approach than other online services, explaining, “It’s like having your own guy when you go into the record store, who knows what you like but can also point you down some paths you wouldn’t necessarily have encountered.”….Our friends at Loudwire found these two items: The eighth edition of Linkin Park‘s annual fan gathering, the Linkin Park Underground Summit, will take place on February 21st in Auckland, New Zealand. The event is expected to follow the template of previous years, with fans getting a chance to meet the band members, watch the group warm up on stage before the show, go on backstage tours and participate in other activities. Tickets go on sale January 19th at 9:00 a.m. Auckland time — which is 3:00 p.m. ET on Jan 18th — to members of the LP Underground fan club. And System Of A Down has announced its first two live dates of 2013, on Aug 9th at the Getaway Rock Festival in Sweden and Aug 16th at the Frequency Festival in Austria. It is not known yet whether the band will perform any more dates overseas or in North America, and there is also no indication they will be recording new music any time soon. So don’t hold your breath there, kids….Following a blockbuster premier, Black Veil Brides are rewarding their BVB Army another chance to catch Legion On The Black on Facebook this weekend. Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de la Rocha turns 43. And how strange is it that Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern also celebrate a birthday on Saturday. Two of the highest paid radio guys and total opposite ends of the spectrum. Have a great weekend! I’m gonna catch up on Oscar nominated films. A Roxy Recommendation: go see Silver Lining Playbook. It’s OUTSTANDING!
