Our comrade Don Kaye was at Metallica's show last night in LA at the Wiltern Theater. It was part of the benefit for Flea's Silver Lake Music Conservatory organization. The show kicked off with Scars on Broadway opening, the new band of Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan of System of a Down. Then Metallica took the stage. They opened the set with "Creeping Death", played all their greatest heavy hitters like "For Whom The Bell Tolls," "Welcome Home," "Sad But True," "Master of Puppets," "One," Battery," "Enter Sandman," "Seek and Destroy" and "Fight Fire with Fire," which Flea joined them on stage for. The set looked sick! Two encores! I'm waiting to find out how the after show was!....Lou Brutus is headed to Fort Wayne, Indiana this morning to interview Disturbed in the studios of WBYR. We are recording an album premiere called "Indestructible, Inside the New Disturbed Album." It will feature all 4 members, David Draiman, Dan Donegan, Mike Wengren and John Moyer of the band talking candidly about the new album, in stores June 3. Look for the show to air nationally between May 29th and June 8th....Hinder and Staind have completed their new albums, and we are chomping at the bit to find out what the details are on both. We'll find out about Staind this weekend at Rock on the Range, and I know that the rock promo dude in LA for Universal is hearing the new Hinder this week. Expect singles from both of these albums next month.....I saw on TuneLab that Breaking Benjamin are working on their next album, tentatively set for September....Meanwhile, gamers, you will be psyched to hear the news that "Guitar Hero 4" is expected to expand to more of "Rock Band" format, with the addition of vocals, bass and drums. Look for that this fall. Music on that set will include Linkin Park, The Eagles, Van Halen and Sublime....There will be no report tomorrow, as I will be at the airport by 7 AM. But expect a killer report on Tuesday morning on all things ROCK ON THE RANGE! Have a great weekend and be sure to listen to your favorite radio shows, hardDrive and hardDrive XL with Lou Brutus! |

Last night, I caught an amazing intimate club set from our ole pal Richard Patrick and his newly formed touring band Filter! I was so pleased that I was able to see them perform in such a small club, considering Filter is doing these big tours with STP, Kid Rock and 3 Doors Down. Nice to see a show where they got to communicate and get response from the audience! And, bonus, I got to hang with producer and co-owner of Pulse Records/Studios Josh Abraham....Speaking of STP, check out a link to see Stone Temple Pilots' recent press conference and performance at the Harry Houdini mansion. up in the Hollywood Hills. It's on the 2nd page on today's Blabbermouth (www.roadrun.com/blabbermouth.net) It ROCKS! And I thought I would die when I read the story about Scott Weiland spending a mere 10 hours in the LA County Jail. He served 10 hrs of his 192 hour sentence. Arrived at 8:55 AM, officially booked at Noon, assigned housing at 6:41 PM then released at 6:54. What???!!! Dunno how that happened, but way to go, dude!....Pulse Content caught up with Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains on Friday night in LA. Jerry revealed that the band has been writing songs for the past 4 months. Jerry added they're "having fun," "not in a rush to record," "trying to figure out where William (DuVall) fits in and where we need to set up," and "it's been a tough and painful experience at times, but it's been very rewarding at the same time." This marks the first time the band has recorded new material since 1995, the last album with Layne Staley. The band reformed about a year and a half ago, touring most recently with Velvet Revolver. A tentative schedule for the release of the record is end of the year. Stay tuned....There's a cool Slipknot interview with Corey Taylor on www.billboard.com. Corey basically says the record, due August 12, will "rip your face off," adding, "I don't think the world will be ready for this album." Taylor described the new record as having "so much power in it and yet there are so many great spots for melody...It's a controlled chaos that hits you right out of the gate." New images on Slipknot's official web site have hinted at a change in the masks and costumes that are a trademark of the Iowa-based nine-piece. Taylor described the new outfits as "evolved," adding that they are "very dark and will fit in everything image-wise that we're making with this album." ...Finger Eleven has released their DVD "Us vs Them vs Now" to Best Buy stores. The set spans 13 year career, with B-sides, live music, music videos and journal info....Fuel has left Epic Records after 10 years....Kid Rock appears on "Late Show with David Letterman" tonight....Happy 42nd to Alice in Chains' Mike Inez and AFI bassist Hunter Burgan, who turns 32 today! |
