Exhibition football is a joke, isn’t it? Here in NYC they hyped the first match up with the Super Bowl 46 contenders with Brady and Manning. Did either play? Not with the score 6-3 apparently. Duh!….Not sure how I am feeling about this Metallica cover of Deep Purple‘s “When A Blind Man Cries.” I mean, why would they do a cover of a totally obscure track that didn’t even make an album! It was B-side. You’ll be able to check it out and vote yourself when it’s in Smash or Crash in a couple of weeks. I mean, are Metallica starting to become music snobs? First the Lulu record, now this. Hope they have all this out of their system so they can come back with a KILLER new studio record next year, eh? I’m just sayin’….Won’t be long before summer reruns are over and shows get back to their new season. Muse and Mumford & Sons will both appear on the upcoming season of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Mumford & Sons will go first, with the British alternative folk act appearing on a Sep 22nd episode hosted by The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Muse will perform on the Oct 6th edition, to be hosted by Daniel Craig of James Bond fame. Mumford & Sons’ sophomore effort Babel arrives on Sep 25th, while Muse’s The 2nd Law lands on Oct 2nd…. Pulse of Radio reports Five Finger Death Punch and Slash are among the artists putting items up for auction on eBay to raise money for the legal defense fund of Lamb Of God vocalist Randy Blythe. The singer was recently released from a Czech prison, where he was detained for a month after being accused of manslaughter in the 2010 death of a Lamb Of God fan following a concert in Prague. Blythe, who already had to come up with $400,000 in bail money while jailed, will return to Prague to stand trial and clear his name. Lamb Of God itself is auctioning off musical gear that was either used live or during recording sessions. Five Finger Death Punch have contributed an autographed bass, a signed skateboard and guitars, while Slash has provided a signed guitar. Other acts will also be contributing items to the auction, while another site has been set up for anyone who wishes to contribute directly to the fund. Visit the auction here or Blythe’s legal fund donation page here….I can relate to this! Eddie Van Halen is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery for Diverticulitis. A message was posted on Van Halen‘s official Facebook page, stating: “Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within four to six months. Van Halen’s scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013.” There’s been no word as to where Van Halen underwent the surgery or when the Japanese dates will be rescheduled. Last month, after bowing to Internet rumors about Van Halen being the half time show for 2013’s Super Bowl XLVII (47) in New Orleans, David Lee Roth took the bull by the horns and issued an open letter to the NFL explaining that Van Halen is ready and willing to play. I hope that happens. No pop stars, please! Super Bowl is a MAN’s sport and deserves a MAN’s band, even if us gals like their football too!!! ;> Have a great weekend! I am off tomorrow.
