I have a post election no sleep hangover from the early rising noisy neighbors. (ugh) Four more years people, can we just all get along & play nice, please?…..Dave Grohl has spoken and he’s giving up retirement for Queens of the Stone Age! The Foo Fighters frontman has rejoined Queens Of The Stone Age in the drummer’s seat, according to Antiquiet. Queens frontman Josh Homme told BBC Radio One on Tuesday (Nov 6th) longtime drummer Joey Castillo had left the group, and Grohl is now behind the kit for the recording of the band’s sixth studio album. Grohl previously played on the third Queens disc, 2002’s Songs For The Deaf, the band’s most successful outing and largely considered their best. He also toured with the group for a brief time before resuming his duties with Foo Fighters. No reason was given for Castillo’s departure from the band. He joined the group in 2002, following Grohl and playing on two studio albums. Grohl and Homme last played together in 2009 when they teamed with Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones in Them Crooked Vultures. The trio released one album and toured behind it for several months. Meanwhile, no news when a second TCV project could surface. Let’s hope in 2013….Chevelle will release Stray Arrows: A Collection Of Favorites on Dec 4th (day before my b’day!), with the 12-track set featuring all 11 of the band’s Top 10 rock/alternative singles as well as a brand new song called “Fizgig.” The track listing for Stray Arrowsincludes “Jars,” “Same Old Trip,” “Vitamin R (Leading Us Along),” “The Red,” “I Get It,” “Face To The Floor,” “Send The Pain Below,” “Sleep Apnea,” “The Clincher,” “Hats Off To The Bull,” “The Meddler” and “Fizgig.” …. I listened to the new Soundgarden album King Animal yesterday on iTunes. It’s so great to have them back and I can not wait to interview them on Sunday in the hardDrive studios! WOO! And RollingStone.com is streaming Green Day‘s “Dos!” currently. Both are released on Tuesday the 13th…Rob Zombie is in NYC on Friday for the 10th annual New York City Horror Film Festival. (They shoulda been here last week if they wanted to see real horror!) Blabbermouth reports Rob will receive the Michael J. Hein Award for “Personal Achievement in Direction.” The award is named after the festival’s late founder. Zombie will also introduce a special “Director’s Choice” screening of one of his films. More info is available at www.nychorrorfest.com. The rocker’s fifth live action film as a writer and director, The Lords Of Salem, is due for release in early 2013. ....Speaking of musicians who are directors, Pulse of Radio reports 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto first made his name as an actor but hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2009 — and even then it was in the low-budget and hard-to-find indie film Mr. Nobody. But now The Playlist reports that Leto will get in front of the camera again in a new movie called Dallas Buyer’s Club. The film, based on a true story, stars Matthew McConaughey as a man who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given only months to live, until he experimented with underground, non-FDA-approved drugs and wound up living longer than expected. Leto will play a cross-dressing AIDS patient whom McConaughey’s character meets in the hospital. With 30 Seconds To Mars taking up so much of his life these past few years, he said he’s being more selective in the roles and jobs he takes on in his spare time! I guess so! (Requiem for a Dream is my favorite of his films. Dark, really dark!)….Happy Birthday today to Greg Tribbett of Hellyeah and Mudvayne who turns 44 and Happy 41st to Robin Finck of Nine Inch Nails and GNR.
