Had a nice afternoon hanging with Chris (very tanned) Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden. We talked about the new King Animal album, some songs from it, their upcoming tour and more. Will be featuring them on a special edition of harddrive the weekend Dec 01st and play some of their favorite tunes! So be listening! We also learned of their tour, kicking off in Jaunary. See Road Rage. Look for them tonight on the Late Show with David Letterman, on www.cbs.com for Live on Letterman performance (should start around 8 PM I think) and then later this evening, Chris will do an acoustic benefit show at the Bowery Ballroom for the Mayor’s Fund for Sandy Relief. Man, our surrounding areas desperately need help. Please do what you can for so many people who have lost so very much! And then tomorrow night Soundgarden do an intimate club show at Irving Plaza, looking forward to that for sure! Some of your probably listened last night to the special that aired on radio stations across the country hosted by Matt Pinfield. That was recorded in our very own studios! Anyhow, lots of Soundgarden stuff for you to enjoy coming soon and in the meantime, check out their music video for “Been Away Too Long.” I like it! Watch it now… Kid Rock and his band will perform a new song called “Detroit, Michigan,” a new song off his fantastic Rebel Soul album coming next Monday, during the halftime show at the Detroit Lions’ 73rd Thanksgiving Day Classic against the Houston Texans in Rock’s hometown. Rock last performed at the nationally televised game in 2010, while last year’s artist, Nickelback, caused major controversy among Detroit residents who thought a local act should have been picked. Rock said, “I get to be in front of the hometown fans and it’s great to have my family down there and then go eat some turkey and watch the next football game. It’s such a tradition.” (Billboard)…Buckcherry are shooting a music video for their next album, Confessions. The record, originally slated for a fall release, has been moved to early 2013. Needless to say, those boys are chomping at the bit. The concept album is centered around the Seven Deadly Sins. Can you name them???….Drowning Pool has made a brand new song called “Saturday Night” available for streaming at Noisecreep.com. The track is taken from the band’s yet-to-be-titled fifth album, which is due out in early 2013 and will mark the debut of the group’s fourth lead vocalist, Jasen Moreno. Bassist Stevie Benton said about the song, “The question I am most often asked is ‘What’s life on tour like?’ This song is my best description of a typical day on the road.” A video is on the way as well. Check out the new track at http://tinyurl.com/ajj9x5f ….30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto told England’s BBC Radio One that the band has gotten past the “burnout” that it began to suffer toward the end of the two-year touring cycle for its last album 2009’s This Is War. Leto said, “It’s stronger, better and more evolved. It’s a complete transformation for us.” As for the band’s next album, due out sometime in 2013, Leto proclaimed, “I really think that this could be the best thing that we’ve ever done.” Doesn’t it make you leery when a band says that? Because they usually preface by saying, “I know everyone says this, BUT…” I hope he’s right. Although I’d rather see him saying that about his next film….Pearl Jam is launching a new series of live “bootleg” recordings called “Instant Classic,” according to Spin, starting with a recording of the band’s September 30th show in Missoula, Montana. That event was part of a campaign fundraiser for Democratic Senator Jon Tester‘s ultimately successful re-election campaign and included a cover of The MC5‘s “Kick Out the Jams” joined by members of Mudhoney. The show is on sale through tomorrow (Nov 13th) in MP3 format for $4.99, with proceeds benefiting Missoula’s Poverello Center, a nonprofit dedicated to helping the homeless. After Tuesday, the show will be available for the usual price of $9.99, as an MP3, on CD or in high-quality FLAC and FLAC-HD formats. A statement about the “Instant Classic” series posted on Pearl Jam’s website read, “Every so often, performances like this stand out immediately as ‘one for the books’ in the band’s eyes. When they do, these ‘Instant Classics’ will continue to be made available with this special offer.” Starting in 2000, Pearl Jam has made hundreds of high-quality “official bootlegs” available for purchase. The practice has continued through this year, with several recent European shows the latest to surface. As for the next Pearl Jam studio effort, which the band has slowly been working on for the past year, bassist Jeff Ament recently told Guerilla Candy: “We still don’t really know exactly when we will finish it so it’s hard to talk about it. It really could be anything at this point. Even though we have seven or eight songs recorded it’s still sort of a blank slate and that’s exciting.” Wish I had time to talk to Matt about some of this. Oh well! …..Happy 68 to Monday Night Football’s Al Michaels, Happy 67th to Neil Young, and Happy 48th to Dave Ellefson of Megadeth. (He’s the nice Dave in the band!) Meow.
