This month is traveling by too fast. So is the NFL season, and I can’t believe the NO Saints got shellacked so badly by the NY Giants. Oh well, and what’s this rumor about Sean Payton going to the Dallas Cowboys?…..Alice In Chains are gearing up for the release of a new song online called “Hollow” on Dec 18th. It’s what they usually do when they have a new album out. Like when they dropped the nearly 7 minute long “A Looking In View” weeks in front of Black Gives Way to Blue back in 2009. I’m drooling here! I just want to hear it! Maybe have to round it up today! 😉 Anyhow, here’s the deal-follow Alice In Chains on Instagram. They will be posting lyrical phrases from the song. They want YOU to submit pix or art that you create that represent what those words mean to you. After you submit them on Instagram or Twitter, you will find them posted on the official Alice In Chains website on Tue Dec 18th when they post the song. Did I say I was drooling?….Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl has announced Friday, Feb 1st as the worldwide release date for Sound City, the documentary he has produced and directed on the history and legacy of the title facility, a legendary and now-closed San Fernando Valley studio where classic albums from dozens of artists were recorded. The film includes interviews about the studio and the making of those albums with Trent Reznor, Josh Homme, Mick Fleetwood, Tom Petty, Lars Ulrich, Krist Novoselic, Corey Taylorand more. Original musical collaborations between some of the participants were also filmed. The film will have its premiere screening at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in late Jan. A digital download version of the film is now available for pre-order at the movie’s website, for the low price of $10. In a note to fans at the site, Grohl writes, “I started this project a little over a year ago with ONE of my good old friends (Jim Rota from the band Fireball Ministry). That’s right….just me, my drinking buddy, and a crazy idea that we should tell the story of a studio we had loved hanging around for years, and our heartbreak to see it close. It soon blossomed into something truly epic!” Grohl calls making the film “the most incredible experience of my life,” adding, “I really feel like Sound City is my life’s most important work. I hope you do too.” Pre-order Sound City at http://buy.soundcitymovie.com/buy ….Slash told me last week there is no activity in the Velvet Revolver camp, and “Scott Weiland is nuts!” Slash told 93X in Minneapolis he was told Weiland has been booted out of Stone Temple Pilots (again!) Sad to hear this actually. Love those DeLeo Brothers and they don’t deserve this treatment from Scott, who should be seeing a shrink. Anyhow, Slash is amazing. I was asking him about having the holidays off (If you keep tabs on the man, he has been touring INCESSANTLY behind Apocalyptic Love!) He told me he has had only two days off in the last 8 months! That’s completely INSANE! I know his wife probably won’t let him leave the house over Christmas! He heads back on the road in the early new year. Meanwhile, look for the reissue of Apocalyptic Love with a special acoustic session from Guitar Center and some bonus tracks (songs that never made the original album) along with some guitar picks and a cool tin container….This week, I’ll be writing the script for our Year End Revue for hardDrive. Lou Brutus will co-host with Brent Smith of Shinedown and we are going to be doing something different with the show this year, so be sure to catch it when it airs on Dec 29th-30th!….Tonight I am attending the rescheduled Smashing Pumpkins show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn! I got a last minute invite to see the Rolling Stones on Saturday, but tix had restricted view! Despite the fact I haven’t seen the Stones since the 90’s and have been a fan since the 60’s, restricted view for this diva wasn’t my idea of a good show. But I appreciate that the thought was there! 🙂 Heard their show was 2 1/2 hours long! Not bad for old guys in their late 60’s! Look for the Stones, along with The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, Kanye West and about a dozen more superstars to perform on the 12-12-12 benefit show live from Madison Square Garden! DVR it on Showtime at 7:30 PM ET. And donate to the victims of Hurricane Sandy if you can this holiday season!…Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack hits the hardDrive studios on Thursday!…3 Doors Down & Daughtry will broadcast their show live on AXS-TV tomorrow beaming from their show in Broomfield, CO. Hit 3 Doors Down’s website for more! And they also have announced their tour will continue after the holiday break. On the resumed tour in 2013, openers P.O.D. will be replaced with Aranda. See Road Rage for the new tour dates with Aranda!
