The Rock for Recovery event last night in NYC was a great night. Although we wish more people were there, but times they be tough. The all acoustic evening brought together some of the nicest and most fun folks I know from the guys in Edisun, J. Loren from Hurt, Sean from Smile Empty Soul, Sid Wilson, the guys from Before the Curtain, Jonny, Tavis and Cale from Art of Dying, and of course, the first solo performance from Adam Gontier. It was fun sitting in their respective dressing rooms while they practiced the songs they were going to sing together. Lots of covers tunes, too! (Except for Sid, he ended the night with a dubstep dj session.) And they helped raise some money to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Every little bit helps! I got me some cool artist crafted jewelry at the Silent Auction tables! Good times! Congrats to Kayla at Octane who helped to spearhead the evening….Pulse Content reports guitarist Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine will fill in for Steve Van Zandt during Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band‘s Australian tour. Rolling Stone reported Van Zandt will be previously engaged shooting his Netflix series, Lillyhammer, and Morello will sub during the nine-date trek, which kicks off on March 14th in Boondall, Australia. Van Zandt will be back on board on April 29th when the tour hits Fornebu, Norway. Morello and Springsteen have had an active recent history, with Morello often popping up at Springsteen gigs and playing incendiary solos on Springsteen’s 1995 classic ‘The Ghost Of Tom Joad” — which Rage Against the Machine covered in 2000. Morello was featured on two cuts from Springsteen’s most recent album, Wrecking Ball, called “Jack of All Trades” and “This Depression.” He also sat in with Springsteen during his most recent appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and at The Boss’ March appearance in Austin the night of his keynote address at South By Southwest. Morello will be among the musicians paying tribute to Springsteen on Feb 8th, when he’s honored as the 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year in L.A….Offspring frontman Dexter Holland and Dead Sara singer Emily Armstrong have posted a video online that shows them performing the Offspring song “Gone Away” together at their Oct 5th, 2012 show in Los Angeles and also recording a new studio version of the track. Holland said, “When we started building our own set list, I realized the stripped-down version of ‘Gone Away,’ which we’ve been doing for a few years, would fit Emily’s voice really well. It turned out to be a special moment in the show each night.” The Offspring is headed to Australia next month, while Dead Sara will open for Muse on their upcoming North American trek. Emily is an amazing singer who is only on the platform of her career. The band has incredible shows every single night. Check out the video of their performance here, and the in studio portion with producer Bob Rock.…..SHAAARRRRRRONNNNNNN! Poor Ozzy! Another fire in the house! Ozzy Osbourne was injured on yesterday morning (Jan 17th) while attempting to put out a fire in the Beverly Hills home he shares with his wife Sharon. According to Blabbermouth, firefighters were called to the house after a candle Sharon had left burning through the night exploded in its glass vase, sparking a blaze in their living room. On Thursday’s edition of the CBS daytime program The Talk, which she co-hosts, Sharon explained, “At five o’ clock (in the morning), I heard a noise like metal had fallen . . . A few minutes later, my eyes are stinging and my throat’s closing up. (I thought), ‘Something’s weird smelling in here.’ Then my dog started to bark. I go downstairs and the whole living room (was on fire).” She added Ozzy, who had a cast on his hand due to having surgery the day before, attempted to put the fire out. Sharon then threw water on it, causing it to erupt even more. Ozzy ended up losing his eyebrows and his hair from his ears down, while his cheeks were also singed. Sharon said, “We are, like, two idiots . . . everything you are not meant to do — go to bed with candles alight, open the doors and put water on — we did it all.” Meanwhile, here is a link to see what you SHOULD do in a fire emergency: http://tinyurl.com/2d8vlr4 ….Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker Band will team up with Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band for two Midwest dates in March.
