I was thinking yesterday that the inauguration of the President of the United States is actually the closest thing we can compare to a royal event. The pomp and circumstance is kinda cool in a way. I wish nothing but the best for the second term of President Obama and hope he realizes his dream like Dr Martin Luther King had hoped for all those years ago…..Well kids, it’s official! Pulse Content informs us the Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Stone Sour/Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor spoke with CBS Local about Sound City Studios, the now-closed recording facility that is the subject of Grohl’s debut as a feature documentary director, Sound City:Real To Reel. Grohl was inspired to make the film after the studio closed and he bought its famous Neve analog recording board for his own home studio. Slipknot recorded its 2001 Iowaalbum on that board, with Taylor saying, “The thing about that Neve board is that it has such a personality. No two albums sound the same coming out of that board because of the different love that you put into it, the different variables.” Grohl, who was with Nirvana for the recording of its 1991 milestone Nevermind at Sound City, recalled, “Had we recorded that record in a different way, the music wouldn’t have sounded the same. And if it didn’t sound the same, it might not have had the same impact.” Funny how an inanimate object has such a profound effect on folks. Over the weekend, the Sound City Players did a 3 hour set with 17 performers in Park City, UT at the Sundance Film Festival. Members of Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Corey Taylor, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Rick Springfield and many more lit up with stage with amazing performances of cover tunes. Meanwhile, tomorrow, Corey Taylor & Josh Rand of Stone Sour will be in the hardDrive studios, along with Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach and the guys in Otherwise. Stay tuned for new interviews on the air soon!…Despite spending luxury time with his family, my friend Dan Donegan‘s news could be out or could be rumor! David Draiman some beans of Dan’s side project. Blabbermouth reported the Disturbed guitarist and drummer Mike Wengren are rumored to be assembling a new outfit of their own with current Evans Blue singer Dan Chandler. Draiman alluded to his bandmates’ new project in an interview last week, although no further information on it is available yet. Dunno if David’s revelation is exactly true, and I guess we’ll have to wait for news from Dan himself. Dan has told me he has been writing, producing a bit, but nothing to report as far as I know! Meanwhile, John Moyer, Disturbed bassist, has been working with Mike Portnoy in Adrenaline Mob. They just released a new single with our friend, Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, a cover of Duran Duran‘s “Come Undone” from the Mob’s Omerta album. Is there a duet she won’t sing on? 😉 The Mob’s manager, Larry Mazer, also manages Lamb of God and we were speaking last week about Randy Blythe, who will be returning to the Czech Republic in a few weeks to answer wrongful murder charges against him for an alleged event with a fan who fell from the stage back in 2010 and subsequently died from his fall. We all need to send positive vibes toward that side of the world and hope that judge decides to find Randy innocent. He could face up to 10 yrs in prison there. Ugh…..On a better note, my friend Sebastien Paquet, who works with Korn, posted this great moment with the Korn guys and a fan who got to meet his favorite band! Through Make a Wish Foundation, a Korn fan stricken with lupus, an autoimmune disease, got to meet the band and hang out with JD and the guys during their stop in Phoenix last year. Here is the video of it. Meanwhile, Korn is working away on music for their next album. More on that in the coming weeks….Happy 48th today to Steven Adler of Adler & Guns N Roses, and Happy 33rd to Ben Moody of The Halo Method (and ex-Evanescence.)
