Grammys! Lzzy Hale and Halestorm WIN Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance! Needless to say, we here at hardDrive are over the freakin’ MOON over this news! We love them so so much and are so happy for them, their management and staff, Atlantic Records and all of us in radio who knew a star when we heard it! Here’s what Lzzy had to say backstage about the win and being up against artists like Iron Maiden and Megadeth: “It’s incredible, actually. We were just talking about how this song that we’re nom — well, now that we’ve won a Grammy for — wouldn’t have been possible without these people. And we wouldn’t have, you know, gotten into hard rock and metal if it wasn’t for Megadeth and Iron Maiden. So it’s just amazing.” And congrats to the understated Black Keys. Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach deserve a HUGE pat on the ole back for winning Best Rock Performance & Best Rock Song (“Lonely Boy”), Best Rock Album (El Camino), and Dan also won for Best Producer! Other notable winners include Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross for Best Soundtrack (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Skrillex for Best Dance/Electronica Album & Recording (Bangarang) and Album of the Year to Mumford & Sons for Babel. As an old veteran of these shows, I was really blown away by this year’s performances, not to mention the stage production, where the sky was the limit! From water to hearts to digital imprinted butterflies busting out of a dress, it was awesome! (And Frank Ocean‘s performance was pretty awesome too, although thumbs down on that song!)….OK, and then Dave Grohl was seen in the audience, and I am guessing he jumped on a red eye to hit NYC since he has a big week, with his Sound City Players coming to perform, and he has appearances on The Colbert Report and Letterman this week as well. I just am hoping to get in to see the show Wednesday. I did get an invite to hear John Fogerty’s new album, Wrote A Song For Everyone, I am psyched for, since it has guest appearances by Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Miranda Lambert & Tom Morello!, Keith Urban and Bob Seger, among others. ..The Van’s Warped Tour is coming Jun 15-Aug 04. Kicks off in LA and ends in Houston. Black Veil Brides are making their, I believe it is, 3rd appearance. 3OH!3, Bowling for Soup, Motor City Soundtrack, Hawthorne Heights, August Burns Red are announced so far, with more acts being announced on Friday….Oh and how can I have a report without more Dave Grohl news? The Foo Fighters frontman and Sound City director Dave Grohl spent his Friday night (Feb 8th) doing an “AMA” — Ask Me Anything — session on Reddit. Among the many topics covered, he revealed the Foo Fighters are already working on a new record. A confused fan wondering about the status of the band asked, “Are you guys on hiatus or are you planning on recording another album any time soon?” Grohl responded, “Like Pat Smear says. We’re not on hiatus. We’re on “I hate us” and yes, we are already writing the new record.” During the session he also revealed he wants to host Saturday Night Live. When a Redditor asked if he plans to go on the show as a host, Grohl responded, “Hosting SNL is the last item on my bucket list — so we’ll see what happens.” In other Dave Grohl news, the rocker will join Chris Tucker as a presenter at the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards which airs on Feb 23rd on IFC. They join Fred Armisen and Sofia Coppola who are also set to be present, along with former SNL cast member Andy Samberg who will host. (Thanks to Pulse Content for some of the material today!)….And Stone Sour has delivered a lyric video for “Do Me A Favor.” Watch it now!….Celebrating birthdays today: Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda turns 36, Slipknot’s #5, Craing Jones, is 41 and H.R. from Bad Brains is 57.
