Happy Birthday, George Washington! Today you’d be 281 years old! That’s old!….Anyhow, Pulse Content reports Godsmack singer Sully Erna is taking some time to revisit one of his favorite hobbies — playing poker. Erna told ESPN after spending a few years away from the game, he’s got the itch to start competing in tournaments again. Erna won nearly $18,000 in 2006 and $45,000 in 2007 at the World Series of Poker before bringing home $307,000 that same year at the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic. So why did he walk away? Erna said, “I was finding that I was very impatient and playing crappy hands. I was losing patience every time I was playing. I had to take a break. (But) I’m making a comeback! I’ve studied the game. I’m getting the itch to play poker again. In fact, I’m in Los Angeles today and I’ll be playing tonight. I need to shake the rust off. I’m ready to go deep and win a lot of money!” Erna says that part of the reason he’s doing solo dates at casinos is so that he can brush up on his game again, explaining, “I love that environment. It works to my advantage, also it’s a transient audience. I can’t wait.” Wish I had the cajones to play poker. I am too scared I’d lose all my money if I even sat down in the chair. Lou Brutus is a pretty decent player, along with Morgan Rose of Sevendust. They have the cajones…..I see everyone today is posting news items on Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters. I wish I had remembered every detail of our interview because I would’ve told ya earlier this week the next thing on Dave’s plate is making the next Foo Fighters album. So perhaps we will have one in our little hands towards the end of the year. And a big ole tour in 2014. That’s my Christmas wish….Speaking of Lou Brutus, he is heading to Chicago tomorrow to hang out with Leigh Kakaty of Pop Evil and producer Johnny K to watch them do the finishing touches on the new Pop Evil album, Onyx. The first single will be called “Trenches” and it’s a HUGE step forward for these guys from Michigan! Be listening for the new tune on hardDrive and the XL very soon!…Sorry to see Dave Lombardo of Slayer did not make the plane with the band as they leave for their Australian tour. Apparently the numbers weren’t correct for Dave while negotiating his payment, so he was replaced by John Dette. Too bad for Dave…..Celebrating big ole birthdays: SNL voice Don Pardo turns 95 today! He introduces the hosts and the intro show credits. I don’t know what they’ll do when he passes. He’s been with SNL since the show signed on the air! You go, Don!…..Saturday, Happy 61st to my pal Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Johnny Winter turns 69 and Sunday, Chris Fehn (# 3) of Slipknot turns the Big 4-0, while “Uncle June”, Dominic Chianese of The Sopranos turns 82. Have a great weekend, y’all!
