Out today, Dave Grohl‘s Sound City: Real to Reel soundtrack. I know, another Dave Grohl mention. But honestly, it’s good, it’s really really good. Listen online or pick it up. You’ll thank me later. And make sure to watch the film! …Slash has written on Twitter he’s already thinking ahead to his third solo album, even though it’s been about a year since his sophomore effort Apocalyptic Love arrived. Slash posted, “Coming up with a lot of cool s*** for new songs and a ton of cool ideas recorded from the tour. Going to start putting them together.” He later added that Alter Bridge fans could rest assured that singer Myles Kennedy would record their new album before getting back together with Slash, saying, “AB fans have no cause for worry. They will soon release a new CD and tour this year. I will catch Myles on the flip side.” Meanwhile, Slash has also been keeping himself busy by creating his own version of the theme song to the Angry Birds video game as well as appearing as a character in the game. He’s also confirmed his participation in the Band Fuse: Rock Legends video game. Slash has also composed the score for Nothing To Fear, the first movie from his Slasher Films production company, which went into production last year but is looking for a spring or summer release….On Friday I will be seeing David Draiman, his band Device and his beautiful wife Lena Yada at their home in Austin. I am looking forward. Meanwhile, I watched the making of the “Vilify” video. I didn’t envy the actors or Lena for what they had to go through to do their parts in the clip. Check it out here. In a word, gooey. Device announced their tour and we’ve got it in Road Rage. Nonpoint and Gemini Syndrome will be supporting…Blabbermouth reports Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook recently gave Media Mikes an update on the recording of the band’s fourth album, which is underway in Las Vegas. Hook revealed, “We are about 65 percent done. We are shooting for a deadline that is at the end of April, early May. We are working hard every day on this thing. I am at the phase now where I am laying down solos here at my home studio.” The new disc is due out this summer and will follow up 2011’s American Capitalist, which was certified gold last year. Look for a big announcement from the band soon!…Also over on Blabbermouth, they posted “Cape Of Our Hero”, the new video from Danish metal rock ‘n’ rollers Volbeat, can be seen here. The song comes off the band’s fifth studio album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies. Seamlessly bringing together all of the band’s influences and reshaping them into something gleaming and new, the album is a record rich with stories and characters woven throughout its lyrics, as well as a spaghetti western musical theme stringing bits together. Some of the characters are real — like the noble lady outlaw Pearl Hart, who held up a stagecoach to buy medicine for her dying mother, or Lola Montez, the erotic dancer with her infamous “Spider Dance,” or “Black Bart,” the gentleman highwayman who wrote poems for the people he robbed. Others are entirely fictional. “The Nameless One” is a cautionary tale of dabbling in the dark arts, featuring the mysterious and sinister character of the title. Elsewhere, “Room 24”, featuring King Diamond, was inspired by a terrifying experience in a hotel room somewhere in the heart of America. The album will be released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on April 5, in the rest of Europe on April 8, and in North America on April 9 via Vertigo/Republic Records/Universal Music. …Head over to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival site for Episode 1 of Mayhem TV with the definitive history of the first five years of the Mayhem festival and a look ahead to 2013. Actor Dane DeHaan, who stars in the much-anticipated 3D movie, “Metallica Through The Never”, has described the film as “a concert movie meets ‘The Wall’ meets Metallica” and says that it is “unlike anything that [he has] ever seen before.” “Metallica Through The Never” will be the first new release via Picturehouse, the full-service independent film marketing and distribution company started in 2005, which is reopening its doors with founder Bob Berney at the helm. The film, written and directed by Nimród Antal (“Kontroll”, “Predators”), stars members of the iconic rock band and DeHaan (“Chronicle”, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”). DeHaan plays a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down. Speaking to Collider.com, Dane, who first gained notice for his impressive performance on the HBO series “In Treatment” in 2010, stated about “Metallica Through The Never”: “It’s, in a way, like a 3D concert movie but there’s also this narrative that ties together all the footage. It’s gonna be, first of all, really rock and roll and really ‘METALLICA,’ for lack of a better word; they don’t hold back at all. But during the concert, I basically go on this trip as a roadie for the band and I pretty much literally have to go through hell and back to take it back to them, and all of this is going on during the concert, so it all ties together really kind of beautifully and uniquely. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before; it’s almost like a concert movie meets ‘The Wall’ meets . We filmed it last August.” Lars Ulrich will be giving us an update on all this in a couple of weeks.
