First day of SPRING! Doesn’t feel like it here. As Jimmy Kimmel said last night, since the Groundhog was wrong, we ought to eat him…. Pulse Content reports Nine Inch Nails has posted a rare 75-minute documentary online in its entirety that covers the group’s 1994-1996 Self Destruct tour. The film, which is packed with concert and behind-the-scenes footage, was only available for a long time on a 1997 VHS release called Closure and features guest appearances from David Bowie and Marilyn Manson. Another rarity, an 2002 acoustic performance recorded in New Orleans of “The Becoming” from 1994’s The Downward Spiral, has also been posted. Two additional videos have also surfaced, with all three originally found on a long out of print disc called Still. (Rolling Stone)…Dave Grohl told us on the red carpet at SXSW he is just starting to work on ideas for the next Foo Fighters record, which will also feature a unique recording method. What could he possibly do? Record to his iPhone? Seriously though, his recording studio has that Neve control board, so I would imagine it will be to tape again, but who knows what’s going on in the mind of that genius!….So I guess it wasn’t just a haphazard meeting after all when we saw these two together playing acoustic guitars on the front porch in Walnut Creek! Staind guitarist Mike Mushok has joined Newsted, the new heavy rock project assembled and fronted by former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. The latter made the announcement by posting a video online revealing Mushok as the newest member of the group, which also includes Jesus Mendez Jr. on drums and Jessie Farnsworth on guitar. That trio released a debut EP titled Metalearlier this year. We’ll have to see if there are some shows in the works. Stay tuned…..Five lucky fans will get something extra in their copies of tool’s forthcoming commemorative edition of the Opiate EP (available Mar. 26 via Toolband.com). Loren of Hurt sent me a batch of songs he’s recorded with bandmate Michael Roberts. Their new project is called Arco’s Angel and their debut album is called Life’s Love Loss. It’s amazing. They plan to release the music digitally on all retail platforms on April 4th and will also be available on their own website tomorrow: www.arcosangel.com. Very stoked for them! Be listening for tracks soon on hardDrive and an interview with J…..Happy 37th today to Chester Bennington of Linkin Park!
