Pretty exciting next few days around here. Today I’ve been invited to be part of a documentary being filmed in NYC called Who Killed (or Saved) The Music Industry. It’s directed by Ryan Phillips and Adam Russell, members of the band Story of the Year, and it’s about the evolution of the music business, mostly told from an artist’s point of view. Check out this cool preview. Hey I could end up on the cutting room floor, but it’s nice to be invited to the party! 🙂 Then tomorrow (Wed.) David Draiman of Device stops by the hardDrive studios for our first sit down to discuss his new band. He just posted a new song from the forthcoming Device album (due 4/09) on SoundCloud called “You Think You Know.” Check it out! And right before Mr Draiman, Jason Newsted will be on the hotLine to talk about his new addition to his Newsted band, Mike Mushok of Staind!!!! And then on Friday, my ole compadre Billy F. Gibbons stops by the studios to talk about the reunion of his very first band (pre-ZZ Top) called Movin’ Sidewalks. They are doing a handful of shows, and we thought it would be cool to have him in to discuss it. Billy and I spent some time together as kids. His aunt owned a women’s clothing store in my hometown of Gloversville, NY and he spent some summers there. We’d play hide and seek in the clothing racks! LOL LIttle did I know he’d grow up to be a big ole rock star!…..Now why couldn’t this be in the U.S.! Pulse Content reports Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello recently joined the lineup of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for a series of shows in Australia while veteran E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt was filming a new TV show. Morello spoke with Rolling Stone after his fourth show on the tour, saying, “It’s been great. It’s been really an honor being onstage with one of my favorite bands — one of the greatest live bands of all time. I’ve been to a lot of Bruce Springsteen shows, but I’ve never been to four consecutive ones. And every show isn’t just a different show — a completely different experience.” I gotta troll the internet for footage. How cool!…..System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan said it’s just a matter of time before the band COULD reform to make a record and possibly do an extended tour behind it. But he emphasized it would have to be the right time when each member felt it was in their best interest. Hey, that’s like getting the planets to align. Doesn’t happen that often. But we can hope, right?…Here’s a good one, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars told a British radio station the weirdest thing a fan ever gave me was a human ear! Ewwww! He said he received it anonymously in a box with a note that said “Are you listening?” Oh man, that is just so wrong……I am hearing a new Five Finger Death Punch track could be coming to radio in May and a new Korn single as early as June. Oh happy days!…Heard some interesting new music yesterday from a couple of former members of Egypt Central. Their new band is called Devour the Day and I was kinda blown away by the tune, “Good Man.” Dunno if it’s online, but it might be making it into a Smash or Crash situation on hardDrive XL with Lou Brutus in the coming weeks!…..Happy 45th today to James Iha (A Perfect Circle, ex-Smashing Pumpkins), Steven Tyler of Aerosmith turns 65 and Star Trek’s Leonard “Mr Spock” Nemoy is 82!
