Man, I gotta make it fast today! Got a call with Jason Newsted, then a visit with David Draiman. And Lou has calls with Arco’s Angel and All That Remains! It’s busy around here! Last night, I met a new band (well, they’ve been around for a bit, but new to me) called Girl on Fire from Seattle. Cool dudes. Working on the new album for Century Media, they hope to have a single out in May and an album in July. Jay Baumgartner produced out in LA and the band are doing some shows right now on the east coast. Jay also just finished the Mindset Evolution album. More on those guys another time. But you can see both of these bands at Rock on the Range. Gonna be a good year for new music!!! Yesterday I also sat down with the directors of the documentary Who Killed (or Saved) The Music Industry, Ryan Phillips and Adam Russell. Really nice guys who sat and listened to me babble for like an hour. I wish the guys all the luck with the project!…. Pulse Content reports Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready will all participate in the 28th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled for April 18th at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Grohl and Hawkins will induct Rush and could end up performing with them, while Cornell will induct Heart. Cantrell and McCready will perform with the latter. Taylor Hawkins told us playing alongside some of his favorite musicians never gets old: “Not only do you get to just, like, pinch yourself — ‘Wow, I’m in the room with this person’ — but you also get to kind of try and soak up a little bit of what they do musically, you know. It’s neat. It really is amazing, and you really get to be in the presence of greatness when you’re with people like that.” Love that guy, too! Did I mention I told him he needed to eat a burger when I saw him in Austin a couple of weeks ago? Yeah, I did…..Sevendust posted a video for their latest single “Decay” yesterday to celebrate the release of their 9th studio album, Black Out the Sun. Looking forward to seeing them on April 17th when they hit town with Lacuna Coil and Coal Chamber…..More deets on the new Queens of the Stone Age album. Entitled Like Clockwork, it is confirmed for a June release via Matador Records, and although it was initially reported Dave Grohl played all the drum tracks on the new CD, Grohl only appears on selected songs. The rest of the drums are handled by Joey Castillo and Jon Theodore. Other guests on the record include Trent Reznor, Elton John, Scissor Sisters singer Jake Shears, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and one-time Queens of the Stone Age members Mark Lanegan and Nick Oliveri. I am kinda surprised at the Nick Oliveri inclusion, as last we left them, Nick was personnea non grata in that camp. But time does heal all wounds. (Oooh, two Dave Grohl mentions in one blog today!)….Happy Birthday today to Scott Anderson of Finger Eleven, who turns 39 today. Happy 48th to Staind bassist Johnny April and very Happy 5-0 to Quentin Tarantino.
