Finally Friday! First, a DVR alert! VH1 Classic is broadcasting “Pantera: Behind the Music Remastered.” It’s an updated version of the original program that aired several years ago. It will air tomorrow night, Saturday, April 06th at 9 PM ET/8 PM CT. My friend and the band’s current “estate manager” Kim Zide Davis appears in it! She’s so awesome….Even though the shows are over a month away, I am already getting so excited to see Korn with Head! (New readers need to know, Korn is my favorite band!) The tour kicks off May 15th, but I get to see two shows: May 17th at Rock on the Range (BTW: for all you Rangers out there, Head’s band Love & Death play that day as well!) and then again on May 22nd in Montclair, NJ at the Wellmont Theater. WOO HOO! A summer tour will be announced shortly, so stay tuned for that…..Young Guns stopped by yesterday and I love seeing those guys. I have adopted them as my sons! Really! They shared the news “Bones,” their U.S. chart-topping debut single has been chosen as one of the official theme songs for WWE‘s Wrestlemania 29, which will take place this Sunday (April 07th) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. and air on pay-per-view beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET. “Bones” recently topped the rock radio chart, while the video is getting close to having two million views on YouTube. Lead singer Gustav Wood‘s description of the song’s subject makes it sound like a perfect fit for any competitive event: “I wrote the lyrics and it was all revolving around this idea of ‘I feel it in my bones.’ That was something that I just knew would connect with people. So that was the first words and then it was all about trying to write the rest of the song around it. And I just, I kind of ended up playing with the idea that bones is obviously something that we all have and it’s kind of almost a metaphor for inner strength and the idea that everyone has everything they need inside of them already. I liked the kind of simplicity of that idea and the universality of it.” An oddly enough, the band, when they were younger, were total fans of the WWE, so to have this honor of the organization using their music, well, it’s the like the proverbial icing on the ole cake. The band is in NYC working on a new song, and hopefully plan to record their next album here in the Big Apple. And I will offer up home-cooked meals because that’s what a good Mum does! Meanwhile, their new single will be “Towers (On MY Way)” and you should check out the video for it on the Young Guns official website. (It’s something that comes to my mind every time I check into a hotel! I use disinfecting wipes everywhere! LOL) See them on the hardDrive Live Five Tour starting NEXT FRIDAY IN DENVER! Woo Hoo!…..Pulse Content reports Metallica has added several more acts to the bill for the second Orion Music + More Festival, scheduled for June 8th and 9th at Belle Isle in Detroit. Top of the list is a reunion of Infectious Grooves, the ’90s funk-rock supergroup that featured current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo as well as members of Suicidal Tendencies. Also appearing with Infectious Grooves at Orion will be Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins and ex-Faith No More guitarist Jim Martin. Trujillo said in a video message, “To reunite with those guys after 22 years is going to be really special for me. Orionis the perfect place for that to happen . . . I’m looking forward to it.” In addition to Infectious Grooves, other bands joining the lineup include Dead Sara (love them!), the reunited Rocket From The Crypt, the former Kyuss Lives lineup now known as Vista Chino, and Detroit favorites Matt Clarke and Calico. (Oh if only we could see a real Faith No More reunion! That would be Ah-MAZING!)…..Here’s good thing: Evanescence guitarist Troy McLawhorn and Staind drummer Sal G.are among the musicians who will perform at a benefit show on April 24th at the Whisky-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. The show will be headlined by Eye Empire, which features members of Dark New Day, Stereomud and Submersed. Singer Donald Carpenter is a military vet himself. The night will begin at 7:00 p.m. with an exclusive look at the documentary and a Q&A session with the filmmakers, including Fran Strine, followed by the musical performances. The show will feature music from a new documentary called Battlefield Of The Mind, with all proceeds going to the Boot Campaign, which supports military veterans. It was produced and filmed by Strine, who has been the videographer for Staind for years. The film itself is a feature-length documentary showing the often raw and tragic details of what military vets in Iraq and Afghanistan go through and takes a closer look at the post-traumatic stress disorder that leaves afflicted vets in a downward spiral after returning home from war. (Can’t tell you how many people I know have been affected by actions of returning vets with this disorder. The numbers of tragedies are staggering.) The documentary is currently available for streaming and download online, with the soundtrack arriving on April 24. Among the music on the soundtrack is a song called “No Words,” which features Staind members Mike Mushok and Sal G. along with members of Lo-Pro and others. Check it out and help if you can….Another Pulse item I want to share today is Black Sabbath has posted the cover art for its upcoming album 13 online, along with a 29-second sample of a track from the record. The simple artwork features the title number on fire against a black backdrop with the band’s logo above, while the song begins with a classic-sounding Tony Iommi guitar riff before Ozzy Osbourne‘s unmistakable vocals come in toward the end. 13 will be out on June 11th and is the first Sabbath album in 35 years to feature Osbourne, Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler recording together again. Several configurations of the album are available now for pre-order, including a standard CD, a deluxe double CD and a “Super Deluxe Box Set.” The three original members are joined on the album by Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk, who may or may not tour with them as well. Founding drummer Bill Ward is sitting out the reunion over a contractual dispute. Sabbath will launch a world tour in support of the album later this month in New Zealand, Australia and Japan, with North American dates following this summer. Check out the teaser trailer here….NOW I know why Taylor Hawkins looks so damn skinny! A photo has surfaced online of the Foo Fighters drummer playing Iggy Pop in the upcoming movie about the legendary New York rock club CBGB. The picture shows Hawkins as Pop standing next to actress Malin Akerman of Watchmen fame as Blondie singer Deborah Harry. The film also stars Alan Rickman as club owner Hilly Kristal and a number of other actors as musical figures out of the club’s history. The movie does not yet have a release date but is expected to arrive later this year. ( see it in Rolling Stone) ….Birthday greetings in order today for Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and Mad Season, who turns 47!….Have a great weekend!
