Rob Zombie spent nearly two hours with us yesterday at the hardDrive studios here in NYC! (Look for the video soon!) We talked about EVERYTHING from the new movie, “The Lords of Salem” (the last horror movie he plans to do!) to the new album Venomous Rat Regenerator Vendor. (He came up with the title while making a sandwich!) And what fans can expect on the Mayhem tour to his Woolite commercial that’s airing on tv currently. From how he met his wife Sheri (20 years ago) to his last touring experience with Marilyn Manson! It was great! Rob is always so gracious and accommodating, and humble. Enjoyed our time. But it was funny, I never had heard about his altercation last year when he was touring with Manson. If you recall, they were co-headlining (I saw the show in Las Vegas last year as part of the Rock Vegas festival.) They swapped closing and opening each night. So on one night (I think it was Detroit) Manson went on late. And the venue had a tight curfew. So then Manson went into overtime; into the time when Zombie’s crew should’ve been setting up for Rob’s show. So Manson was “flashlighted” to get off-stage. Manson didn’t like that, and started to tell the audience he was going to “kick someone’s ass.” Menawhile, Rob was in his dressing room where the venue had monitors so you could see the show on stage. And he heard Manson going on and on how he was gonna kick “someone’s” ass, meaning Rob! So when Manson left the stage, Rob went to Manson’s dressing room, they got into it and Rob slugged him and walked out! The next night, Manson was all nice, went on stage on time. End of story. But will Rob ever want to tour with Manson again? I think NOT. Anyhow, be listening for Rob as hardDrive XL Featured Artist of the Week May 6-10. What he DIDN’T tell me is there is also a book of story of “The Lords of Salem.” Find that out now as well…Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age was also on the hotLine with me yesterday, (yes, busy day! I ate lunch at 5 PM!) We talked about …Like Clockwork. Elton John, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, Trent Reznor, Joey Castillo, Dave Grohl and Jon Theodore (One Day As A Lion, The Mars Volta, he’ll be the touring drummer on the upcoming run) and his band Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman all perform on this record. Josh said his life had taken a bad turn and this album was a reflection of that time. (He sounded great, btw.) We also talked about his good friend, TV foodie Anthony Bourdain. Josh and Lanegan wrote the theme song for his new CNN show, “Parts Unknown,” that debuted on Sunday night, and Josh and his friend producer Dave Sardy wrote the credit song for the great film, End of Watch. (See it if you haven’t. It’s in Redbox and Netflix I think) Find the new Queens of the Stone Age record in stores Jun 4th & look for tour dates soon. The band is at Lollapalooza in August in Chicago….Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter has released a statement in remembrance of the band’s late bassist, Chi Cheng, who passed away on Saturday (April 13th) after spending more than four years in a semi-comatose state following a November 2008 car accident. Carpenter wrote, “There are so many things I can say, and yet at this moment, none of it matters or compares to the loss everyone feels. There will be a hole in our lives where Chi once was. But that will be filled every day with all of our love and memories we all have in our heart. He will always be here because of love.” Carpenter added, “It’s time we all give our love and best, and do our best to love. Especially ourselves. Chi would want that for everyone. All our healing will begin with love. I love you, Chi.“…..The 15th annual Voodoo Festival in New Orleans set for Nov 1-3, with Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails as headliners. The Gaslight Anthem, Macklemore and Lewis and more are set. See the Voodoo site for more….Black Sabbath have announced the first 4 shows of their highly anticipated North America tour in support of the forthcoming album, 13 , due Jun 11. The shows are posted in Road Rage, so check them out there. Pre-sale tix available on Thursday over here. And a story has surfaced that Ozzy fell off the wagon, but is back on, now 44 days sober. There was a rumor Sharon was going to divorce him, but that is just a nasty rumor …Here’s one of the reasons I don’t ever plan to attend Coachella. The Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ headlining set on Sunday night (April 14th) to close out the first weekend of the Coachella Festival in Indio, CA was ravaged by a fierce sandstorm, according to Rolling Stone. The storm began during a previous set by the Wu-Tang Clan, but had become “blinding” by the time the Chili Peppers took the stage, with singer Anthony Kiedis saying, “I feel like I’m in Lawrence Of Arabia.” Rolling Stone reported that “brutal, freezing winds” whipped up during the storm, adding, “By the end of the day, it was hard to enjoy anything with a mouthful of sand, burning eyes and numb extremities.” The Chili Peppers, the Clan and other acts that got blasted by wind and sand on Sunday will get the chance to do it all over again this coming weekend, when Coachella literally repeats itself for another 90,000 attendees. (Although I wish I was there to see the Wu, as they were celebrating the 20th anniversary of Enter the Wu (36 Chambers), one of the finest rap albums ever! Look for a new Wu-Tang Clan record in July!) After Coachella, the Chili Peppers are next scheduled to co-headline the second annual Orion Music + More festival with event organizers Metallica in Detroit on June 8th and 9th (thanks Pulse and Rolling Stone)….Blabbermouth posted the new video from Volbeat for “The Hangman’s Body Count.” It’s a cool animated piece that was created by the guy who does their artwork. Check it out here…..And finally today, many thanks to everyone who’s attended and those who will be attending the hardDrive Live Five tour! The pictures you’ve posted from your Vivogig app (this link is to their website where Android users can post their shots! The app is only for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users.) that we have in the Gallery over at www.harddrivelivetour.com are excellent! Keep ’em coming! And look for Lzzy Hale to join Bullet For My Valentine for a special tune during their set!
