Oh man, our building fire alarm inspectors are coming to test the system this morning and it is LOUD! So I need to make this fast!….When David Draiman was here in the studios not long ago, he told me he and his wife Lena Yada were expecting! He was so proud and like any anxious Dad, can not wait to see his first child! I am so happy he finally tweeted the news because keeping my fingers from sharing his news was brutal! LOL Meanwhile, here is a nice run down of the Golden Gods Awards that was held in LA last Thursday night: Metallica and Rob Zombie were honored while Deftones, Corey Taylor and Slipknot took away the top prizes at the fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards. The celebratory heavy metal and hard rock event had a shadow cast over it by the death earlier that day of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, with many of the winners and performers paying tribute to the fallen thrash metal icon. Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 mentioned Hanneman right off the bat when he accepted the first award of the night for Best Guitarist, saying, “This one’s for Jeff. We love you.” Other winners included Halestorm’s Arejay Hale for Best Drummer, Corey Taylor for Best Vocalist, Deftones for Best Album for Koi No Yokan, Device for Best New Talent and Slipknot for Best Live Band. The latter award was presented by Slayer guitarist Kerry King and ex-Ozzy axeman Zakk Wylde. King raised a toast to his late bandmate, saying that a moment of silence would not be appropriate and asking for a “moment of noise” instead. Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi accepted his Riff Lord award via video, while Golden God winner Rob Zombie and Lifetime Achievement honorees Metallica kept their speeches brief. Performances included Device singer David Draiman teaming with Halestorm for a cover of Led Zeppelin‘s “Whole Lotta Love,” Metallica doing Judas Priest‘s “Rapid Fire with Priest frontman Rob Halford, Rob Zombie joining Five Finger Death Punch for White Zombie‘s “Thunderkiss ’65” and a partial reunion of Pantera as singer Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown joined Anthrax for a run through Pantera’s “This Love.” Five Finger Death Punch also performed their brand new single “Lift Me Up” with the Metal God, Rob Halford! Man, I am sure the after-party was off the hook!….Godsmack and Aerosmith are among the artists who will perform at Boston Strong: An Evening Of Support And Celebration, scheduled for Thursday, May 30th at the TD Garden arena in Boston.
