Yesterday, I mentioned the Lou Brutus interview with Stone Sour and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor. Today, our sister company Pulse, wrote about it in more depth. Here’s part of what Corey had to say when Lou asked where he is with Slipknot. For a long time, the singer seemed the most hesitant to get back into the studio and make a new album following the 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray. But with nearly 4 years having passed since Gray’s death (Friday is the anniversary), and with Taylor making three albums with Stone Sour since then, the singer told us that he thinks 2014 will finally be the year of the Knot: “I know everybody is pretty keen on getting together and seeing what happens next year, so I mean, if it takes us a year to write an album, so be it. The main goal is to just get us in the room and just see what happens, you know. If we can get past that first day, I think it’ll come together. Now that we’re all kind of in better places in our lives and whatnot, it’s making it a little easier to be excited about it again. It’s just starting to feel like it’s time.” And I think it will happen as well. Slipknot, as we all know, have some Euro festivals on tap this summer and I forgot to ask him if there will be another KnotFest in August. But since we haven’t heard about it or seen an announcement for it yet, I wonder if it will happen. But 2014 sounds right to me. Could spell another killer year for rock, with anticipated records from the Knot, Metallica and Foo Fighters all in the mix, to name a few. No people, ROCK IS NOT DEAD!….Tonight, I am going to see Korn again, this time in nearby Montclair, New Jersey. Will be talking to Jonathan Davis after their set. If you (hello, Korn fans, I’m talkin’ to you) have some questions you’d like me to ask him, drop me a line via the email link on the home page right away!….Did I mention I listened to the forthcoming Sick Puppies album last week? It’s called Connect (the cover is cool, has a Yes/Pink Floyd vibe to it), and I told the band I am so happy for them, they made yet another kick ass record. I think some were skeptical when hearing the record was produced by the pop/rock songwriter Desmond Child (man, in the 70’s his band Desmond Child and Rouge were a hot item here in NYC!) But never fear! With songs like “Die to Save You” leading off the disc, there is nothing to fear! Their set at Rock on the Range was killer. I guess being a woman, I take special interest in how the ladies of rock are fairing, and bassist Emma Anzi has totally come into her own. She is so fierce out there, looks absolutely FABULOUS and I think the band is finally hitting their stride. Can’t wait for you all to hear the album when it drops on July 16th. Check the band’s website for teasers and free downloads in the coming days…..The news Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington was going to be the new frontman — more or less — for Stone Temple Pilots seems to have divided fans of both bands, but one person thinks it sounds great: Slash. The legendary guitarist, who played in Velvet Revolver with former STP vocalist Scott Weiland before dismissing him from that band, tweeted, “On a quick break from interviews, listening to new @STPband w/ @chesterbe sounds fantastic! Really excited for this new line-up.” It was Slash who first hinted STP had fired Weiland for a second time last December, with the band itself making the official announcement in February. Slash has made no secret of his problems with Weiland but admitted a while back that he was hardly surprised by them: “You know, we knew what we were getting into going into it and, you know, he managed to do pretty well for a while there. But then he turned around and it was aggravating and frustrating and all those negatives, but at the same time, you can’t sit there and be surprised.“ Fans were shocked when Stone Temple Pilots made a surprise appearance at a radio festival in the Los Angeles area last Saturday (May 18th), with Bennington making his debut on the mic. The group performed a new song called “Out Of Time” at the show, putting a studio version online earlier this week. Bennington later said that he was planning on doing more recording and touring with STP, while remaining in Linkin Park. Hey, I thought the song was pretty cool! I am waiting to see when we can interview the guys. I have a special place in my old heart for the Deleo Bros and I am happy they are moving forward with the band they founded and love. Hey, I’m happy to be able to hear these great songs performed live again!… Got the new Alice In Chains album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, yesterday when I returned to the office. Nice to get it a week before it’s out so I can live with it. So many strong songs here, including “Voices” & “Phantom Limb”! So happy they are back and badder than ever!…..Philip H. Anselmo is releasing his first solo album, Walk Through Exits Only, on Jul 16th through his own label, Housecore Records via Megaforce. Heavy is back! (I listened to a track, and I can never understand the lyrics! LOL) He also announced a tour, which kicks off Jul 31 in Tulsa, OK and winds up Aug 20 in Atlanta. See Road Rage for complete deets….Sadly, there is only one show left on the hardDrive Live Five tour: tonight in Milwaukee at The Rave. But never fear, there will be a fall tour that you can look forward to. More deets when I can announce! But I wanted to take a moment to thank the bands, their fabulous tour managers and crews, band management, our label reps and you the fans for making this tour so damn fun and successful! Made this ole girl quite proud that we could help wave the flag for new rock. And special thanks to our partner Ledge Entertainment and Pinnacle Entertainment for making it all happen! Remember, support live music!
