One more day before the three day weekend and this girl is gonna “chill”! Spent last evening on the stage in Montclair, NJ at the Wellmont Theater watching Love and Death, Device and Korn SLAY the audience! Got to hang with the guys, and unfortunately, my interview with JD didn’t happen because he had too much else going on after the show! (He only does interviews after his set.) He had to play a video game with a contest winner and then do a listening session for some folks, so after it got to be 12:45 AM and my ride back to the city was wanting to leave, I had to pull the plug. But never fear, your friend here will get with him. I did see that Tom Lord Alge, legendary producer & mixer who’s worked with the likes of Green Day, The Rolling Stones, Skillet, Marilyn Manson, 30 Seconds to Mars, U2, Jeff Beck, Sevendust, Fall Out Boy, Peter Gabriel, just to name a few, was on the bus with Jonathan as he played Tom some of the new tracks. I think he’s pining to work with Korn on the mixes, but me thinks the gig is going to producer Don Gilmore, who made the new Korn album with the band. Anyhow, the band rocked the stage again last night! I had never been to that venue before and the stage was kinda small in the wings, so I got to stand practically next to Head the whole show. It was magical though. Took a bunch of pics. Will try to upload to the hardDriveRadio Facebook if I have time today. Meanwhile, look for Korn to return this summer on a big ole tour. The album is tentatively slated for August, with the single in late June or July. Device put on a killer show as well. I was standing pretty close to drummer Will Hunt. Man, that guy is like the Tazmanian Devil. He, Sevendust’s Morgan Rose, Arejay Hale of Halestorm and Ray Luzier, Korn’s drummer, are some of the heaviest pounders I have ever seen! They all play with these heavy duty sticks, easily shattering them to bits. I was singing the female parts to “Close My Eyes Forever” in the wings. The set was strong. Anyhow, here’s what else is happening: Beware of Darkness, the band I have adopted as my sons, are arriving in the hardDrive studios today. (Check them out on Conan O’Brien. They did the show last week in LA.) They are performing tonight with Heaven’s Basement and Buckcherry at Webster Hall. Looking forward to seeing them…Pulse reports Queens Of The Stone Age will make a special two-night guest appearance on CBS-TV’s Late Show With David Letterman on June 5th and 6th, right after the June 4th release of the band’s sixth album, . . . Like Clockwork. The band will play yet-to-be-announced tracks from the new disc on the program. Queens Of The Stone Age are Letterman veterans, having performed tracks like “Little Sister,” “No One Knows,” “Go With The Flow” and “3s And 7s” inside the Ed Sullivan Theater in the past. The band will also perform the album in its entirety Thursday night (May 23rd) in Los Angeles, with the show set to be streamed via NPR. . . . Like Clockwork is the first Queens album in six years and features guest appearances from Elton John, Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and former Queens bassist Nick Oliveri, among others….Metallica posted a trailer for their new 3-D Imax film, Metallica: Through the Never. Check it out here….Godsmack frontman Sully Erna is getting his own signature guitar from Gibson. The Sully Erna Les Paul Studio model is ebony black with a pearlescent Godsmack sun emblem emblazoned on the body. Other customized details include double-star 12th fret inlays and a Sully Erna moon and star logo on the headstock. Gibson described the “stripped-down” axe as having a “look and a tone that are emblematic of heavy rock for the 21st century.” So are the prices: while the retail price is listed at $2,300, the guitar is available with a case at music stores for about $1,400. (Loudwire)…Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi told Guitar World in a new interview that he was “shocked” when original drummer Bill Ward decided to opt out of the band’s reunion over a contractual dispute, saying, “We waited a long time for Bill and we wanted to sort it out. But at the end of the day, especially after I was diagnosed, I thought, F***ing hell, that’s it. We’ve got to get a move on. I might pop off next year! So I emailed him and said, ‘Bill, we can’t wait any longer. We’ve got to get on with it.’ And that was it.” (Blabbermouth)…Filter has released the first of two clips showing behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the band’s sixth studio album, The Sun Comes Out Tonight. The follow-up to 2010’s The Trouble With Angels is due out on June 4th through the group’s new deal with Wind-Up Records. A song from the album called “Surprise” can now be streamed on Soundcloud. (Blabbermouth) The record is really good….And have been listening to the new Alice In Chains album incessantly. I just love that dirgy music they make. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here drops Tuesday….Gotta dash. Have a great day!
