Have two bands coming into the hardDrive studios today! Newcomers from Seattle, Girl on Fire, and my brothers from other mothers, P.O.D., who are also going to do an acoustic performance. So the report will be short, but sweet today! First off, Soundgarden plans to take a break from touring after the band completes its upcoming European trek, which begins on September 4th in Helsinki, Finland and ends on the 19th in London. According to Blabbermouth, guitarist Kim Thayil told a Seattle radio station, “I think (after the European tour) that will be it for a while. I know that Matt (Cameron, drums) is going to be touring with Pearl Jam and I think Chris (Cornell, vocals) is going to be working on a solo acoustic record and he might be playing some shows during that.” Thayil added he will be “working on compiling the Soundgarden B-sides box, (for) which we have a lot of songs that were released on European and Australian releases, movie soundtracks, various things like that that have yet to be compiled and put into album form.” The Soundgarden B-sides collection has been wanted by fans since even before the group broke up in 1997 due to the large amount of material available. Actually, I think that’s what Kim spent a lot of time on already prior to the reunion. So this set is already 26 years in the making!!!! Should be pretty awesome when it finally does see the light of day…..Trying my best to round up interviews with Pearl Jam. Reached out to their manager yesterday, so please keep your fingers crossed we might be able to make that happen….A trailer has surfaced for Slash‘s film company’s release. “Nothing Left To Fear.” It looks, well, scary! Check it out here. And reminder, watch Slash tomorrow night at 9:45 PM PT/12:45 AM PT at https://www.evntlive.com/#/event/1000476 ….Here’s more on AFI. Pulse of Radio reports AFI’s ninth studio album will be titled Burials and released on October 22nd, according to the band’s publicist. Singer Davey Havok said in a statement, “This record is of silence, of burials, and the burials that result from that silence. It’s of betrayal, cruelty, weakness, anxiety, panic — deep and slow — despair, injury and loss. And in this it is shamefully honest and resolutely unforgiving.” The group issued the first single from the disc, “I Hope You Suffer,” last week. The radio single “17 Crimes” drops Aug 20th. Burials will be AFI’s first album with the band’s new label, Republic Records. It follows up 2009’s Crash Love. In addition to previewing the single last week, the band created six brief teaser clips, all in black and white, which are all posted at the official AFI website. AFI will preview songs from Burials on a just-announced North American tour, which will start on September 12th in Minneapolis. A remix of a new AFI song titled “17 Crimes” will serve as the end title track to the upcoming film, The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. “17 Crimes” also appears on the soundtrack, which is being released on August 20th….OMG, I am listening to a new song from Monster Magnet called “The Duke (Of Supernatural)” It’s RAD! Used to know Dave Wyndorf pretty well, but he fell into the clutches of drug addiction to pain killers after a series of knee surgeries. Seems like the ole boy is back with a killer new record on Napalm Records Last Patrol on Oct 15th and a tour in November. Right on! (Thanks Loudwire for making my day with this news!)….Happy 5-0 today to my pal Paul Geary, who is a manager now, but I met him back in the day as the drummer for Extreme!
