Last day of July! Ugh, rent due!….Pulse of Radio reports the 20th anniversary deluxe edition of Nirvana‘s third and final studio album, In Utero, will be released on September 24th and will feature more than 70 tracks. In addition to the original album, the reissue will include previously unreleased demos, B-sides and live tracks, including a complete live performance from 1993 featuring the final touring lineup of the band. The complete concert film, called Live And Loud, was shot on December 13th, 1993 in Seattle and will also be released as a standalone DVD. The In Utero package will be issued in several configurations, including a three-CD/one-DVD “Super Deluxe” edition, plus two-CD and three-LP versions. The live material features the final touring lineup of singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and guitarist Pat Smear….Today, the new Five Finger Death Punch album, The Wrong Side of Heaven, The Righteous Siide of Hell-Vol. 1, drops everywhere. It is part one of the two disc release. The record was produced by Kevin Churko in Las Vegas. The album includes special guests Maria Brink from In This Moment, Jamie Jasta of Hatebreed, Tech N9ne, Soulfly’s Max Cavalera and of course, Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Founder and guitarist Zoltan Bathory told us, “Generally you pick your best 12 and the rest of them become bonus tracks and this and that, or you keep it for next record, whatever. But you know, when we tried to take away songs, we realized, no, no, no, we don’t want to take this one or that one. And when we went to the label, they said the same thing: ‘Well, keep 11.’ And so we were like, ‘OK, well, here’s 25, you pick it,’ and they couldn’t pick it either. So we were like, ‘OK, now this is gonna be a double record.’ That’s how pretty much that happened.” Zo is an amazing guy. Of course, he’s the leader of the band, but he also came from a design background, so he does all the band’s merch designs, has a hand in the artwork for the covers of the albums, is a mixed marshall arts athlete, and just bought a boat he lives on in a marina in LA! Crazy! He told me the idea for the 5FDP rings (Lou Brutus wears his proudly) is they were going to signify an all access pass for the band and their friends, but most venues didn’t go along with the idea for security reasons, hence, the laminate. LOL Look for new dates on their upcoming tour with Escape the Fate and Gemini Syndrome in Road Rage….Nine Inch Nails has debuted two more new songs since performing “Find My Way” at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan last week, the band’s first live performance in four years. The two fresh tracks, “Copy Of A” and “Disappointed,” were part of the group’s set at the Ansan Valley Rock Festival in South Korea. All three songs are taken from the new NIN album, Hesitation Marks, which arrives on September 3rd. (Rolling Stone)…Slash says he and singer Myles Kennedy are “going through the sketch process” of writing new songs for the follow-up to the legendary guitarist’s second solo effort, 2012’s Apocalyptic Love. The duo, along with the rest of Slash’s touring band The Conspirators, plan to get back into the studio soon now that Kennedy has completed work on the new Alter Bridge record. Slash said, “I‘m really excited about the material and it’s great. I don’t know what particular direction it is. It’s a hard rock record, because that’s what I do, but you really can’t say anything about it until it’s out.” (Audio Ink Radio)….Jason Newsted and his band Newsted featuring Mike Mushok of Staind, returned last night to the Gigantour stage, as they were forced to leave due to Jason’s bout of walking pneumonia. The disc includes the first single ‘Heroic Dose.’ The album is also the first Newsted release to feature Staind guitarist Mike Mushok. Mushok joined forces with Newsted after the recording of the band’s four-song introductory EP Metal. (Thanks Loudwire.) Meanwhile, Jason and Mike will step into the hardDriveRadio studios here in NYC on Monday! The Winery Dogs will also be dropping in. And David Draiman of Device is also making an appearance next week, so Yours Truly is a busy camper. If you have questions you would like to submit, please do so via our contact link on the home page!…..I mentioned Kevin Churko earlier, and he’s gonna be a busy camper as his next project is HellYeah! Vinnie Paul and the guys will hit the studio in October with him to make their first album with an outside producer. The other 3 albums were produced by the band in Vin’s Arlington, TX studios. This time, Vin can invite everyone to stay over at his Vegas home while they work. Hmmm, I might have to crash those sessions when I’m in Vegas in October for the RadioContraband Convention!…Happy 32nd today to my friend M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. Happy 42nd to John 5 (who told me he’s recovered 2 of his stolen guitars!) and writer J.K. Rowling is 48.
