As the camel in the commercial says, “What Day Is It?”…Yesterday had a great time with Redlight King’s Kaz and Jules who came in and performed 4 acoustic tunes in the hardDrive’s “Live @ 10-65” Studios! Good stuff you will hear and see in the coming weeks here on the ole website and on air! They told me they’ll be touring with Sick Puppies this fall and have bunches of things up their sleeves. And keep an eye out on the highways for a bearded dude on a panhead motorcycle as it’ll probably be Kaz on his bike going from town to town on tour. He likes heading out on the road, as witnessed on his website & lyric video for “Born To Rise”: www.redlightkingmusic.com…..Pulse of Radio reports today ex-Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland apologized to STP fans during his show last Saturday night (Aug 17th) at the Trocadero in Philadelphia. Weiland began his speech in an effort to settle down fans who were chanting “F*** you, Chester,” a reference to Weiland’s replacement in STP, Chester Bennington. Weiland said, “I apologize to those fans out there who are, feel like they’re caught in the middle of it, cause I sure feel like I’m caught in the middle of it emotionally, and all I want to do is play music, man.” (HenneMusic) …Speaking of Chester Bennington, he and his bandmate in Linkin Park, vocalist Mike Shinoda, have teamed with electro house artist and DJ Steve Aoki on a song called “A Light That Never Comes.” The trio debuted the track at Tokyo’s Summer Sonic Festival and the studio version will appear on a free-to-play Facebook game from the band called LP Recharge. Players all over the world will be able to work together to unlock the song via the game, which will launch on Sep 12th. Check that out here…..A rarely-seen director’s cut of the Nirvana video for “Heart Shaped Box” has surfaced online. The clip will be included in the 20th anniversary reissue of the band’s final studio album, In Utero, due out on Sep 24th, Most of the changes in the Anton Corbijn-directed video take place during the third verse, with greater emphasis on an obese woman in a bodysuit and the little girl in the white robe…. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will sit on the jury of the third annual Napa Valley Film Festival, which will take place from November 13th through the 17th in Napa, California. Grohl will judge the category of U.S. Narrative Short Films, along with fellow juror Ben Bray, an award-winning actor and stunt coordinator. Leading the jury as its president will be Joe Carnahan, director of films like The A-Team and The Grey. Grohl got involved with the film industry earlier this year with the release of Sound City, the documentary he produced and directed about the legendary California studio where many classic rock albums were made. He told me he originally intended to make a short film about the studio’s famous recording desk: “That’s where the whole thing started and I wanted to pay tribute to that by making a short film. So I reached out to a friend who had a camera and edits things, and I said, ‘Let’s make a little YouTube clip that’ll be a sidebar to the 20th anniversary of (Nirvana album) Nevermind. And it turned into a f***ing movie (laughs).” Oh Dave, you’re so awesome!…..And I am remiss in wishing Dimebag Darrell a Happy Birthday yesterday! He would’ve been 47! I thought it was Saturday! Anyhow, my favorite Dime memory was backstage in his dressing room at an Ozzfest stop in Camden, NJ. Big ole fun party was on and the tour manager of one of the bands also happened to be a tattoo artist, so that dude brought over his equipment since Dime was known to give people his famous “reset button” tattoo. I remember two people getting that tattoo that night and in a way, I am sorry I didn’t get one when offered. I was too chicken! LOL But watching Dime do those with such intensity, the way he did everything in life, was cool. I’ll never forget it. Oh and I think we had a couple of black tooths……..just a couple…..Happy 46th today to Serj Tankian amd Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple fame is 61.
