The mighty Metallica has begun streaming a new live version of “Master Of Puppets” from its upcoming movie, Metallica Through The Never, at RollingStone.com. The song, along with many other Metallica classics performed live in the movie, will be available on the film’s official soundtrack album. The record is due out Sep 24th, while the movie opens in limited release on IMAX screens three days later on the 27th and wider on Oct 04th. Bassist Robert Trujillo told me yesterday it was tough deciding which songs to include in the film and soundtrack: “It was difficult because some of the songs that we actually did perform and film are not actually in the theatrical cut. But I think that we covered a pretty good spectrum of the most popular songs. At the same time, the whole idea behind this film was really to do sort of a best-of, and that makes it difficult to pick a set list that everyone’s gonna be happy with. But at the end of the day, I think that we did it right.” He also told me his suggestion of a car accident in the film was also one of his favorite moments! He mentioned it to director Nimrod Antal and it was pulled off so realistically that when you see it, you can’t believe anyone survives! Really great stuff. Listen for this interview as Robert and Metallica will be the Featured Artist of the Week on hardDrive XL the week of Sep 23-27…..I mentioned Avenged Sevenfold’s Number One debut on the Billboard Top 200 chart yesterday. Next up for Avenged Sevenfold is its first major tour in support of the new CD, which starts Oct 03rd in Chicago. Singer M. Shadows told us the band is raring to go after more than a year off: “Yeah, we’re feeling good, no doubt about it. We’re really excited, you know, the batteries are recharged, you know. I think that year off really helps, and then you start wanting to get back on the road. We’re looking forward to it. It’s gonna be a whole new chapter for us and we’re excited to be playing again. We’re excited about the record. So when you’re excited about the music you’re playing, it makes touring a lot easier.”….Congratulations could be in order for Gavin Rossdale and his wife Gwen Stefani who, according to In Touch magazine, could be expecting their 3rd child. God bless Gwen, who’s 43! You go, Momma! She really would like a girl. The couple has two sons…..Lzzy Hale checked in yesterday and there is some news in the Halestorm camp! They have a new covers EP coming out next month, ReAniMate 2, and one of the songs they cover is Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky.” Can’t wait to hear the stuff, as you know the band and song will appear on the next Cover It Up Special Edition of hardDrive over your Thanksgiving weekend!…..Now this would’ve been a sweet club show to see! Nine Inch Nails played a surprise show at the tiny but legendary Troubadour club in Los Angeles on Tue night (Sep 03rd), performing in front of a few hundred fans to celebrate the release of the band’s new album, Hesitation Marks. Frontman Trent Reznor told the crowd, “Thank you for whatever humiliating things you had to do to get tickets,” as he led the group through a 105-minute set that stripped away almost all of the elaborate production the band will use on its fall arena tour. The set list featured three tunes from the new disc and a slew of oldies and hits, minus “Closer.” I saw a photo on a friend’s Facebook post who was there, right up front! Jealous!…..And lastly today, Jack Osbourne will be on this season’s “Dancing With The Stars.” He’ll be paired with dancer Cheryl Burke and his competitors include former NFL pro Keyshawn Johnson, Snooki and “I Left Scientology and Lived To Talk About It” Leah Rimini….Happy 45th today to Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine and Happy 44th to Dweezil Zappa. And had he lived, Queen’s Freddie Mercury would turn 67 today.
