Hello peeps! Just finished listening to the AWOLNATION remix of Korn‘s “Never Never.” It’s pretty cool…..Just 3 more days til I get to see Metallica at Harlem’s Apollo Theater not too far from where I am sitting right now. The venue’s capacity is only 1,506, so this will be a very special event, but odd because, as I recall, I don’t recall the seats coming up from the floor in front of the stage, but we’ll see. The landmark theater began it’s life in 1914 as a burlesque theater called the 125th Street Apollo. But in 1933, the mayor of NYC banned burlesque, and with the neighborhood’s growing African-American population, the venue started to book variety acts geared toward the local audience, and then tons of big bands like Count Basie and Duke Ellington, jazz musicians John Coltrane & Miles Davis, and the 60’s brought in R&B & blues artsts like James Brown, B.B. King & Otis Redding. The variety talent show “Showtime at the Apollo” saw artists like Jimi Hendrix get their start. I saw Korn at the Apollo on Nov 15, 1999. It was awesome. So I am definitely excited to be there again for this Metallica show! 🙂 And I can walk home! Sylvia‘s, here I come for dinner!…..Meanwhile, the venue will be too small to bring the stage Metallica used in their flm, Metallica: Through the Never. But Rob Trujillo told me the band definitely has plans to use that stage next year when they are planning to tour! When you see the movie when it opens in IMAX theaters on the 27th, you will be blown away when you see this stage. It’s nothing like you’ve EVER seen in your life, and just thinking about the band taking this huge thing out in arenas, is making me stoked. (Note: you are going to want to sit in the seats just above the stage line to get the full impact of the led screens on the floor of the stage. Check out this trailer on the movie that discusses the stage production. Tell me THAT isn’t freaking amazing!…..Counting the days til the hardDrive Live-Outbreak Tour begins with Bullet For My Valentine, Black Veil Brides, Stars In Stereo and Throw The Fight! Saturday, Sep 28th is kicks off in LA at the House of Blues! And I have to be at a family wedding! Oh the things I do for my family. Spoke with Moose, Bullet’s drummer, and he told me the band is ready to hit the road again. “It’s like second nature now, to be honest. We’ve been doing it for so long it’s just, you know, we know what’s about to come so we just chill out the best we can. A week or two before we actually leave we go into rehearsals and get a couple of sets going and just get rehearse and hang out and get excited for coming to America again.” And we are excited to have ’em! For tickets and more, hit the tour site!….Pulse of Radio reports Two documentaries on Green Day have both set release dates. The first, Cuatro!, arrives on DVD and iTunes on Sep 24th. The film chronicles the conception, writing and recording of Green Day’s recent trilogy of albums, Uno!, Dos! and Tre!, which came out last September, November and December. Bassist Mike Dirnt said, “Over the last year while we were recording our trilogy, we posted multiple clips every week so fans can see parts of the recording process of Uno!, Dos! and Tre!. Cuatro! brings our fans one step closer by giving them even more access and revealing what it was like for us to make these records.” Meanwhile, the second film, Broadway Idiot, will open in New York City and on video-on-demand Oct 11th, expanding Oct 18th to additional cities….
Stone Sour and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has recorded a live acoustic version of The Clash‘s classic “London Calling” as part of a new online documentary about the legendary punk band. Taylor laid down the track as part of a five-part documentary on the Clash released by Google Play for their Uncovered Sessions. It’s available as a free download for a limited time. Taylor is gearing up to start work on the first Slipknot album since the death of bassist Paul Gray in 2010. Check out Corey performing the acoustic song here…. Escape The Fate has revealed ex-bassist Max Green will be temporarily rejoining the band on its upcoming tour with Five Finger Death Punch, following guitarist Monte Money‘s alleged refusal to tour. Current bassist T.J. Bell will take over on rhythm guitar in Money’s absence. The band insists Green is not a replacement and there are no official lineup changes being made. The band issued a statement in which it did not delve into the reasons for Money’s holdout, except to say, “We have been let down just as much as you, the fans, have been let down . . . more details will surface very soon.” ….. And finally today, I am in pre-production for a special “Stop A Bully” edition of hardDrive set for airing Oct 5/6 weekend. The show will contain interviews with some of the biggest names in rock talking candidly about their experiences with being bullied and giving listeners advice on how to handle things if they are being bullied. Sad when you hear about kids as young as 12 years old taking their lives because some insecure, ignorant idiot texts and Facebooks them, physically abuses them and drives them to taking the most drastic measures to make it stop. I can’t tell you how sad it makes me to hear about actual listeners who have committed suicide. I want this abuse to end. Hopefully, our little radio show will do something to help this massive problem. If you know someone who’s being bullied, www.stopbullying.gov.
