It was very nice to wake up to our press release in a national industry newsletter, RAMP. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and United Stations Radio Networks-syndicated rock shows hardDrive and hardDrive XL, both hosted by Lou Brutus, will be dedicating a significant amount of airtime during October to exposing the national scourge of bullying. Throughout the month, both shows will air clips from a bunch of well known rock artists addressing the issue of bullying and cyber-bullying — Rob Trujillo of Metallica, Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Stone Temple Pilots, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Rob Zombie and many others. HardDrive Producer Roxy explains the rationale behind this campaign, stating, “Teenage suicide as a result of bullying is sadly rampant these days, and the Internet has opened the door to a whole new form of bullying. It’s our hope that bringing to light the past experiences of major rock stars will help our listeners who might feel like there is no way out.” A podcast version will be posted on our home page. #proud!…..Pearl Jam is streaming Lightning Bolt over on iTunes, but I’ll be damned if I can open it! The new version of the Danish/American rock act’s fifth studio album will contain new bonus tracks and a live DVD. The latter will feature footage of the group performing at a number of major summer festivals in Europe, including the Download festival in the U.K., Rock Am Ring and Rock’n’Heim in Germany, Hellfest in France and Denmark’s Roskilde Festival. Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies debuted at Number One in several countries when it arrived last April, with the disc entering the Billboard album chart at Number Nine…I just watched the trailer for a new movie that looks, well, very cool. Check this out http://www.waltermitty.com/….Metallica frontman James Hetfield will be honored by Little Kids Rock during the organization’s annual benefit event at the headquarters of Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov 09th and Hetfield will receive the “Livin’ The Dream Award.” The award was named in honor of Josef Desimone, head chef at Facebook, who supported Little Kids Rock and passed away this past summer in a motorcycle accident. (Antimusic)…Three rare Nirvana interviews recorded between 1990 and 1992 for U.K. magazine Metal Hammer have surfaced online. The talks find the band discussing a range of topics, including the Nevermind album and achieving mainstream success. Late frontman Kurt Cobain says in one interview, “I think we’ve been a pop band even before we recorded the Bleach (debut) album. ‘About A Girl’ is the only pop song that ended up on (Bleach), but we had written many like it before.” The interviews arrive just weeks after the 20th anniversary edition of the trio’s final album, In Utero, was released.
