Gonna be a fast report today as I fly out of here soon! Here ya go:
Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett will host his first horror convention, called Kirk Von Hammett’s Fear FestEvil, next February in San Francisco, according to HenneMusic. The three-day event will take place on the 6th, 7th and 8th of that month and will feature vending, some live music, “Kirk’s Crypt” private tours, panels, signings, special guest appearances and more. Among the guests already confirmed are The Walking Dead producer and makeup artist Greg Nicotero, plus legendary Dawn Of The Dead makeup pioneer Tom Savini. Hammett, a lifelong horror fan, released a coffee table book in 2012 called Too Much Horror Business that featured photos of his extensive collection of monster and horror memorabilia. He displayed a portion of his collection in the “Kirk’s Crypt” exhibition during the 2012 and 2013 Orion Music + More festivals. Hammett explained a while back how he first got into horror movies, saying, “Five years old, I sprained my arm so I couldn’t go out and play. I was sequestered inside because I had to recover from my arm. Turned on the television, the first horror movie I’ve ever seen was on that night: The Day Of The Triffids. I saw that movie and, from that point on, I was just hooked . . . those are the type of movies I gravitated to.” I had heard Kirk has a fantastic Halloween party every year at his home. Sounds like it could be awesome! Here’s a teaser for the convention…..Nickelback has unveiled the track list for The Best Of Nickelback, Volume 1, a comprehensive 19-song collection that will arrive on November 19th. Among the monster hits included in the set are “Photograph,” “How You Remind Me,” “Rockstar,” “Burn It To The Ground,” “Far Away” and many more. Frontman Chad Kroeger once told us that he thought the secret to the band’s huge success was that they wrote songs for everyone: “We don’t write music for one kind of person or one age group or just males or just females or whatever it might be. You know, I’ve got older friends, I’ve got younger friends, I’ve got friends that, career-wise, do absolutely everything, you know, such a rainbow grab bag of friends that I have. And so I find the same thing with the music, you know — why just make one kind of music for one kind of taste? Why not make music for everybody?” One of the biggest rock bands in the world, Nickelback was formed in Canada in the mid-’90s and released its first independent album, Curb, in 1996. The group’s second major label outing and third album overall, 2001’s Silver Side Up, was its commercial breakthrough, yielding the colossal hit single “How You Remind Me.” Since then, the quartet has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and scored more than 18 hit singles at rock radio and other formats. 2005’s All The Right Reasons spent 112 consecutive weeks in the Top 30 of the Billboard album chart, selling more than eight million copies in the U.S. alone and over 15 million copies worldwide. The band also sold over 11 million single digital downloads and more than 5 million ringtones of the album’s songs. Nickelback has been nominated for five Grammys, three American Music Awards, 12 Juno awards and were named “Group of the Decade” by Billboard magazine in 2009. The group’s most recent studio effort, Here And Now, came out in September 2011. A new disc is set to be released sometime in 2014…If you missed our STOP A BULLY show, you can listen to a podcast under SITES & SOUNDS on the home page…..Have a great weekend!
