Good morning! Can someone tell me what is going on in this crazy world we live in? Why are teenagers coming to school with guns and shooting teachers? Or the case of the teen who killed his teacher in Danvers, MA? How is it kids are able to take their parents’ guns and 400 rounds of ammo to school? Why are the guns not kept safe in a home? Where is this coming from? I understand why people want to own guns, but when they end up in the hands of a child, something is very very VERY wrong. Just saying….Korn’s new album The Paradigm Shift entered the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart last week, marking the band’s 12th album to do so. And this week, Pearl Jam has notched its fifth Number One record on the Billboard 200 album chart, as Lightning Bolt sold 166,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at the top of the survey. The band’s 10th studio effort follows 2009’s Backspacer, which moved 189,000 copies to also land in the top spot. The group’s previous chart-toppers were 1996’s No Code, 1994’s Vitalogy and 1993’s Vs. Guitarist Mike McCready told us although Lightning Bolt touches on different eras of the band’s sound, the band didn’t plan it that way: “You know, I think there’s some looking back and some looking forward in this record. When you sit down to write a record, it’s not — we kind of never go, ‘This is what our thoughts are on what it should be.’ The recording process itself and the songs will tell you as it goes on what it is, so we don’t know exactly what we have when we first start out.” Nice to see Rock is Not Dead!…I was turned on to a new band yesterday I instantly fell in love with. They are called Sleepwave, out of St Pete, FL. Fronted by Spencer Chamberlain, formerly of Underoath, the band is in the process of getting their first record deal. Check out their tune, “Rock And Roll Is Dead and So Am I” over on YouTube….Five Finger Death Punch has posted a new webisode on their Facebook page and have premiered a new song called “The Agony of Regret.” This is the second installment of a series of webisodes the band is rolling out which will also preview new tunes. The Wrong Side of Heaven, The Righteous Side of Hell-Vol. 2 is out Nov 19th…..Pulse of Radio reports Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has contributed a new song called “Misery Chain, recorded with Joy Williams of The Civil Wars, to the soundtrack of the new movie 12 Years A Slave, the new film that stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a free black man from upstate New York who is abducted and sold into slavery in the days before the Civil War. The film is based on the true story of Solomon Northrup and also stars Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti and others. Cornell said in a statement, “I was moved by this film and the story in a way that transcends any film experience I have ever had. I was inspired to write a hundred different songs, but finally landed on one based on what I believe is an extremely important message I took from this man’s journey. Compassion, basic human rights and love must be our priorities above race, religion or commerce. Every generation needs a reminder of that simple idea.” …. The unlikely duo of Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones have recorded a tribute album to the Everly Brothers. I know, you are saying, “Who Are The Everly Brothers?” I remember my parents had their first single “Wake Up, Little Susie,” a 45 rpm 7″ vinyl record, I liked as a kid. They were Don and Phil Everly, brothers from Kentucky and Illinois who released their first album in 1958 called Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. They were a country influenced rock and roll duo known for their steel guitar playing and close harmony vocals. So in 2013, Billie Joe, a fan, wanted to re-record these songs and wanted a female singer. So now we have this album called Foreverly. Check out a tune here….Jane’s Addiction will get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The band will receive the honor on Wednesday, Oct 30th, according to Variety.
