Wow, November 1. All I can say is it’s All Saint’s Day. Were you a saint or a devil last night?…..This is great news for Detroit Rock City! Metallica is contracted to host the band’s Orion Music + More festival for two more years in Detroit, according to MLive.com. Detroit City Council member James Tate said, “It’s contracted, and I think since it was a event so well-suited for the venue — for the type of event it was — it was perfect.” The band itself has not said whether it will return to the Motor City. Drummer Lars Ulrich said earlier this year in a radio interview, “Detroit was a great experience. We’d love to bring this thing back to Detroit. We’ve gotta sit down and look at the practical parts of it . . . It’s not an easy thing to launch a festival, but we’ve had a lot of fun the last two years doing it, and we hope to bring it back to Detroit.” Hopefully Metallica will make it official, as I am sure the city fathers are all walking around with their fingers crossed…..This is cool. Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger is one of several well-known musicians who are working with film composer Hans Zimmer on the score for the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (directed by Marc Webb, starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field and Chris Cooper, opening May 2nd) . According to Slashfilm, Einziger is joining Pharrell Williams, Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart in a “supergroup” Zimmer has created to write and record the score together. Zimmer created a drum “orchestra” when he did the score for this summer’s Man of Steel soundtrack with Tool’s Danny Carey, Josh Freese, former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain, Jason Bonham and others….Rush‘s upcoming concert DVD, Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour, will be screened in movie theaters for one night only on Monday, Nov 18th at 7:00 p.m. local time. The 396-page art book by photographer and author Lisa S. Johnson features incredibly high quality and artistic shots of some of rock’s most legendary axes, revealing, “the intimate details, the wear and tear, nicks, scratches, sweat stains, burn marks and personal adornments” that most fans have never been close enough to spot. Late, great guitar pioneer Les Paul provided the foreword for the book, which features instruments by such notables as Slash, Jack White, Tom Morello, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Bruce Springsteen, Rick Nielsen, Robby Krieger, Ace Frehley, Nancy Wilson and many more. (Pulse of Radio)….Let the hating begin! Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is developing a TV series for The CW network based on his own life, according to TV Guide. The series, a one-hour drama called The Noise, will follow one young man’s journey from a volatile home to rock super stardom with his new band. Durst is an executive producer on the show. Durst, who has directed two feature films, (one is called The Education of Charlie Banks, and I encourage you to find it on Netflix, it’s really good!) has some TV experience on the acting front. He appeared as a bartender on a few episodes of Fox’s hit medical drama House and had a role in the 2005 NBC apocalypse mini-series Revelations. He also starred in a sitcom CBS was developing called Douchebag, as an aging rocker trying to balance his celebrity and family life, but the show never made it to the air. Limp Bizkit signed with hip-hop label Cash Money in early 2012 after years on the Interscope label. The band has yet to release any music on the label, although they are rumored to be readying a new disc for 2014…..Celebrating birthdays this weekend: Today, Anthony Kiedis (wonder if anybody calls him Tony?) is 51, Saturday, my friend Fieldy from Korn is 44 and Sunday Mick Thompson of Slipknot hits the big 4-0 and Tim McIlrath of Rise Against turns 34….Have a great weekend!
