Woo hoo! Going to see Korn tonight in Slayerville, NJ! Oddly enough, Slayer is playing in the city at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden tonight as well! I know where my heart lies!…Pulse of Radio rerports Metallica will play a series of European dates next summer in which the set list will be almost entirely made up of fan requests, according to an announcement made by the band yesterday (Nov 26th). In addition, the last slot in the set list will be filled by a brand new song, presumably from the group’s upcoming 10th studio album. As for the status of that long-awaited new record, frontman James Hetfield gave us an update: “Well, we have tons of material to sift through after the last couple of tours a little. So coming back here, sifting through all that material, that takes a lot of time, ’cause there’s a lot of great stuff. There’s 800 riffs we’re going through, you know, it’s kind of insane. You know, we have sifted through a lot of the stuff and pulled the cream of the crop, and it’s just sitting there waiting for us to take it to the next level.” Drummer Lars Ulrich said about the upcoming European shows, “We are once again psyched to break free of the four walls in the studio to get energized by our devoted European friends for a couple of weeks next May and June. On top of that, the fact that all our nutty fans will pick the songs we play should be some next level fun and take a big load off my shoulders as the guy who usually writes the set list!” Meanwhile, next weekend, Metallica will perform in Antarctica. Last I heard, weather was super bad there. Hope they are able to pull things off safely! And, once again U.S.A., Metallica takes it to Europe and not here. I guess I understand. Those huge huge Euro festivals that draw 100,000 people at a shot, they pay beaucoup dinero, so it makes sense if the offers are there, ya take ’em. But sure would be nice to see them do something like Rock On The Range or Rockfest, eh?…..Ah, love this guy. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl dropped a few more hints about the band’s upcoming eighth studio album when Rolling Stone spoke with him on Sunday night (Nov 24th) at the American Music Awards. Grohl said, “It’s badass. We’re doing something that nobody knows about, it’s f***ing rad. We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before.” OK, so spill the damn beans, dude! What are you talking about and WHEN will you do the reveal here? Come ON! Suspense is killing me! When I interviewed him earlier this year, Grohl told me it’s important to him that the band keep changing things on each new record: “The best thing about being in a band and making music is doing as many things as possible and exploring as many different musical regions as you can get your hands into. And it’s important for every artist to explore that or just take a stab at it. Records should be things that are important to the artists as well as the people.” They are for me, at least! Foos have two shows coming up in about 2 weeks in Mexico City. Maybe it’s not too late to get a reservation….Whoa! Just saw the trailer for Sully Erna‘s first stab at acting in a motion picture called “Army of the Damned.” Check it out here…..Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan recently participated in a fundraising drive for PAWS Chicago, a no-kill humane animal organization providing dog and cat adoptions, clinics, advocacy operations, and more to the Chicago area. Corgan, who owns two cats rescued by PAWS, teamed with chef Curtis Duffy to auction off a private concert and dinner for 12 that ended up going for $60,000. (Consequence Of Sound)…Ya know, the on-goings of former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins is available online. I am so disgusted by the things he did, I won’t even give it space here. But I will say I hope he gets everything they say happens in jail when they put him behind bars for the rest of his life. So disturbing. I knew those guys from the time they first came over to the states. Was on Ozzfest, I wanna say back in 1999. I feel very badly for the rest of the guys in the band and hope this closure allows them to move on and start something new…..I rather like this new record from Chino Moreno called Crosses. Check out a new video for a track called “Bitches Brew” (like the little nod to Miles Davis, I must say.)….Well, the windy and chilly weather forecast for Thanksgiving will not prevent the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons from flying!
