Oh man, would’ve given my right arm to be at this! Pulse of Radio and our friends at Loudwire report Foo Fighters played a surprise show on Monday night (Dec 9th) at Rock & Roll Pizza in Moorpark, CA (out in the valley, dude), presumably as a warm-up for the group’s upcoming stadium gigs in Mexico City. The band tore through a 23-song set that opened with “All My Life” and closed with “Everlong” but did not feature any new material from the act’s next studio effort. Other Foos classics aired during the gig included “The Pretender,” “Learn To Fly,” “Walk,” “These Days,” “Monkey Wrench,” “This Is A Call” and “Times Like These,” as well as a cover of the Tom Petty classic, “Breakdown.” The Foos have played other small shows, usually at clubs, and for their last album, performed in people’s garages, just prior to releasing new albums. Drummer Taylor Hawkins told us that some of his favorite shows are the smaller ones: “I really enjoy it. I love playing in clubs and I love doing stuff like that. I really do and I always will. And I don’t know if it’s because it kind of takes me back to my, you know, my youth, kind of, you know, being in my teens and playing in people’s garages and it’s the same exact s*** I did when I was 16, you know.” The band’s Mexico City shows will take place on tonight (Dec 11th) and Friday (Dec 13th) at the 55,000-capacity Foro Sol stadium, marking the band’s live debut in that country. Frontman Dave Grohl recently dropped a few more hints about the band’s upcoming eighth studio album to Rolling Stone, saying, “We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before.” And I am still scratching my head. What is this all about????….Their manager played me this on Thanksgiving and now it’s released! Pop Evil has released a remix of the band’s chart-topping song “Trenches” done by rap legend Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC fame. The track will appear on the new “super deluxe” edition of Pop Evil’s latest album,Onyx, which will be available on Dec 17th and is now available for pre-order via iTunes. Frontman Leigh Kakaty said about the DMC remix, “Collaborating with DMC has brought the song to a whole new level, and we are very excited to get it out there to see what the future brings.” So psyched for these guys are their tune, “Deal with the Devil,” is poised to make it to the number one slot of the most played Active Rock tunes! “Trenches” made it there earlier this year! Congrats to the band and their team!….Speaking of Foos, their manager, one of my favorite managers, John Silva, is now managing Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor‘s side project, How To Destroy Angels. Very cool. Maybe there will be a chance to get an interview with Trent, finally! Congrats to Mr Silva and his staff!….Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne said in a statement that the band is “ecstatic, surprised and very happy” about its multiple Grammy nominations, which were announced on Sunday night (December 8th) at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The reunited act earned three nods this year, for Best Rock Album for 13 plus Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Song for “God Is Dead?,” the record’s first single….Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has announced he will perform on CBS-TV’s Late Show With David Letterman Monday (Dec 16th). Cornell will play the new song “Misery Chain,” which appears on Music From And Inspired By 12 Years A Slave, the soundtrack to the new pre-Civil War film based on the true story of Solomon Northrup. This will be Cornell’s first live appearance since canceling the last two dates of his recent solo acoustic tour due to a shoulder injury. I’ve been told by friends who have seen the movie, it leaves you depressed for a couple of days. We went to see the Hunger Games instead. That peeved me a bit since I forgot it’s the second story of a triology and the ending is dangling. Hate that. Bought the new James Patterson book, since I love the Alex Cross novels, and he did the same damn thing, LEFT ME DANGLING! I HATE THAT! Oh did I just go off on a rant? Must be the coffee…..Happy 32nd today to Zacky Vengeance of Avenged Sevenfold! Yeah, another Sag!
