Happy New Year! Hope you had a blast and resolve to be kind to one another this year in every way!….Just catching up on the state of Slipknot. Pulse of Radio posted
former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has spoken out for the first time since the band announced on Dec 12th he was no longer a member. Jordison issued a statement on Wednesday (Jan 1st), saying, “I would like to start the New Year by addressing the recent rumors and speculation regarding my departure from Slipknot. I want to make it very clear that I DID NOT QUIT SLIPKNOT. This band has been my life for the last 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans.” He added, “This news has shocked and blindsided me as much as it has all of you. While there is much I would like to say, I must remain silent to further details at this time. I would like to thank you all for your unwavering love and support, and wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year.” There has been intense speculation among fans in the past few weeks about the reasons for Jordison’s departure and/or dismissal, while rumors also circulated that it meant the end of the band, which has not recorded since 2008. Singer Corey Taylor posted a message on Twitter last Sunday (Dec 29th), dispelling rumors the band was finished. He wrote, “For those who think the KNOT are falling apart, you are greatly and sadly mistaken. Bring on 2014. Great things are coming. Stay tuned . . . ” Slipknot’s original statement on Dec 12th, revealing Jordison’s exit, said, “We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future.” And so we’ll alert you to any updates…..Soundgarden will make its first-ever pilgrimage to Israel next June, according to Audio Ink Radio. Although singer Chris Cornell has performed there on his own twice, this be the entire band’s live debut in the Holy Land. The group is scheduled to headline the second day of a two-day festival at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv on June 17th. Joining the grunge legends will be the Pixies and other acts to be named later. Cornell said in a statement, “I enjoyed performing in Israel so much in recent years, and I’m really excited to be returning finally with Soundgarden.” The full lineup of the event is expected to be revealed sometime later this month. Soundgarden has seven other dates on its calendar so far in 2014, including three South American Lollapalooza stops in the spring, a trio of German shows in June as openers for Black Sabbath, and a late June festival in the Polish town of Oswiecim, formerly known as Auschwitz — site of the most infamous of Nazi Germany’s concentration camps. Drummer Matt Cameron will be sitting out the band’s 2014 shows due to previous commitments with Pearl Jam and a desire to spend more time with his family….This story just goes to show how insane or possibly stupid, Axl Rose really is! According to The Pulse Of Radio, in a new piece at New York magazine’s Vulture site, titled “What Happened When Axl Rose Rented My Apartment,” writer Steve Fishman describes how the eccentric Guns N’ Roses singer was looking for a New York pad around three years ago and found Fishman’s place, which was located in the downtown TriBeCa area and which Fishman was making available for rent.
Fishman said Rose came to see the 5,300-square-foot place twice, saying he was looking for an apartment without a lot of “glaring” sunlight. Fishman’s wife reported the one time she was there when he visited, Rose “played enthusiastically with our dog” and “loved the place.” Fishman was worried because Rose had a reputation for wrecking places, but the singer agreed to pay a high rent and left a six-month deposit. When move-in day arrived, however, Axl didn’t. By the time his one-year lease was up for renewal, he had not set foot in the apartment again — despite continuing to pay the rent. His assistants claimed he was still going to move in, but although he had even been in New York and stayed at an expensive hotel, he did not spend any time in the apartment.
Nevertheless, Axl renewed for a second year at an increased rent — but even though the rent checks kept coming, he never went back to the apartment. His management finally called the whole thing off when it was time to renew for a third year. Fishman concluded, “People have mixed views of Axl Rose, but as a landlord, I loved him. If he ever needs a recommendation, I’ll happily write: Quiet, undemanding, and pays his rent.” (Thanks, Blabbermouth!)…..I also saw this item on Blabbermouth about my pal Zoltan Bathory of Five Finger Death Punch, who posted the following message on his Facebook page: “I don’t know why — but it’s always around New Years day/eve when I get quite a few desperate e-mails from people who feel they hit rock bottom and think there is no way out… They are depressed, often suicidal…If you are really losing your mind… then don’t hesitate and call 1-800-273-8255. It’s the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Call them — they are professionals and equipped to help you! I’m not a psychologist (so call the hotline) — but since you asked, here is my 2 cents on it: When you hit rock bottom — it’s always a perfect opportunity to completely change your life. Fear is what keeps everyone from taking chances… but those who have abandoned all hope, they’ve got nothing to lose … they are fearless. Fearlessness is the ultimate power. Use it. If you read the most successful people’s biographies — it always have that sentence in there… ‘and there I was homeless with 5 dollars to my name — or something equally unfortunate… This is not a coincidence. In a weird way, hitting rock bottom could be the best thing ever happen to you, because you don’t have the luxury to be complacent anymore… When shit hits the fan, it should light some fire under your ass. This is the time to make fearless leaps. You always fight harder when you’re backed into a corner…Life just made this mistake… it put you in the corner with no escape… Then this is your time to turn on ‘beast mode’ … Do the things you were afraid to do (legal ones) … Live like there’s fire raging in your hair...” Good advice….I dropped an email to Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil just before Christmas and she told me she was fine. But today I read her Facebook post and I see what she was going through, which has resulted in the band’s cancellation of their ShipRocked appearance later this month. Cristina wrote:
My dear friends,
I surely hope it has been better for you all…but 2013 hasn’t exactly been a piece of cake for me.
Bad moments of sadness, melancholy, lack of strength and sleep, moments when I thought I was really going to give up… not artistically but as a person.
Life can be a bitch sometimes. But as in every “not so happy” situation I went through in my life I always try to see the good coming out of it all and what I found out is that not only I realised I have an amazing family tight as an army and a loving boyfriend who made me smile through the roughness…but I have priceless friends that supported me ALL the way through the bad moments, without even barely thinking about the so overrated “rockstar status” I am not proud of.
And I love them all back to death, I mean it.
This is what life really should be: the self awareness of the fact that at the end of the day is not what we have done in our lives, but who we shared everything with.
I also shared my voice, our music, a piece of my life with you all, so feel part of the family too
Here’s to a great 2014.
May the new year make all your dreams come true, give you all the happiness you guys deserve and give you the strength to realise you can get wherever you want if you really want to.
Smile, smile a lot and let others smile.Oh…and party hard tonight but… be safe, I want to hear every single one of you from tomorrow on ))
Rock on and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Love,
CS
