It’s so cold here, I refuse to go outside. There, I said it! Not going to freeze my gonades off today just so I can sit in front of a computer in another location! LOL So here I am, still in my PJs and slippers, and I am happy!….Big news from yesterday, Dave Markey, a documentarian and a friend of Nirvana‘s who was with them for many different shows during their brief career, posted a 15 minute decent video performance from the side of the stage during a show in LA at the Forum on Dec 30th, 1993. Dave writes,
“20 years ago tonight (Dec 30, 1993) I stood on Kurt’s side of the stage at my hometown’s Los Angeles Forum and captured the last set I would see of this band. A band that I had worked with, toured with; people that I would call my friends. A band that both the world and myself really loved (can’t really say this has happened since.) Within just a few short months it would sadly all be over. Sharing a few songs here; a couple covers Vaselines’ Jesus & Bowie’s Man Who Sold The World) and All Apologies. I’m glad to have documented this show, as well as their pre-fame fun in 1991.” Sad but true, only 4 months later on April 5th,1994, Kurt Cobain had committed suicide. And ironically, on April 10th of this year, Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Check out the video here (Thanks, Kerrang)….. I wish I was going on Shiprocked 2014 this year! Tremonti, the solo band fronted by Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti, has been added to the lineup of the 2014 ShipRocked cruise, which sets sail on January 26th-30th aboard the Norwegian Pearl from Miami to Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. Also added to the bill is Black Stone Cherry. The two acts join a lineup that already includes Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, In This Moment, Sevendust, Nonpoint, Art Of Dying and many more. This year, they’ve added comedians and DJ’s, including a late night set from Neil Sanderson of Three Days Grace, who does some spinning on his own. Good stuff. Meanwhile, I heard the new Black Stone Cherry is some of their best work to date! Can’t wait to hear for myself!…Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong paid tribute to the late Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers, who died last Friday (Jan 3rd), with comments at his Twitter feed and an essay in the Wall Street Journal. Armstrong, who recently collaborated on an Everly Brothers covers album called Foreverly with singer Norah Jones, said, “I am saddened by the news of the passing of Phil Everly. The Everly brothers go way back as far as I can remember hearing music. Those harmonies will live on forever.” He added later, “We’re gonna miss you Phil. Gratitude.” Armstrong wrote in the Journal, “I never met the Everly Brothers or Phil Everly. I thought that I’d run into him in the future. When I found out yesterday that he had died, I got to say I’m kind of in shock. I feel like I lost a relative . . . Anything that you’re a huge fan of and paying homage to on top of that — when it’s taken from you, it’s sad.” Everly, who was 74, died due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. I know I will be dating myself for those of you who don’t have a clue about me, but my first single was “Wake Up Little Susie” by the Everly Brothers when I was like 6 or 7….Time to plan a trip to the UK this summer! Wenner turns 68.
