Hello all! Watched the Golden Globes last night, and no, Jared Leto was not kissing his gay lover! It was his BROTHER Shannon! So get over yourselves! Congrats to the 30 Seconds From Mars frontman. From the first review I saw from The Dallas Buyers Club, it was certain he had Best Supporting actor locked! Good on him!….And I want to say, I am feel so blessed to be working on these radio shows. When I read listener email from folks who are in England who happen upon us, or get a note from a loyal fan up in North Pole, AK who used to record the show as a kid and now in their 20’s, relisten to those shows and thank us for turning them on to new bands, it really makes me happy and proud of what I do for a living. So thank you, fellas and gals. Keep it up! I may never retire!…The Red Hot Chili Peppers will join Bruno Mars to perform during the pop singer’s Super Bowl halftime show next month. The Chili Peppers will already be in the New York area for a show in Brooklyn on Feb 1st as part of a week-long series of concerts and festivities leading up to the NFL’s championship game, which will take place on Feb 2nd in New Jersey. It is not known whether the Chili Peppers will perform on their own during the halftime show or alongside or as part of Mars’ own band. Wonder if the Foo Fighters will join, just for the hell of it!…..The icon and legendary rock club on the Sunset Strip in LA called The Whisky A Go Go has been celebrating it’s 50th anniversary. The club started out as discotheque where girls danced in what appeared to be bird cages. They wore mini dresses with fringe and white boots. The song “Going to A Go Go,” written by The Miracles, was inspired by the club, and was made famous by the Rolling Stones. By the later 60’s, bands were breaking out of there, and any given night of the week you could see house sets from The Doors, The Buffalo Springfield, then Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper, the Turtles and so many more. Flash forward to the 80’s and bands like Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and the hair bands of Hollywood, were getting label deals by A&R guys who would attend the shows there. System of a Down broke out at the Whiskey. So like I said, the place was where legends were made. Recently, former Runaways (formerly fronted by Joan Jett) bandmates Cherie Currie and Lita Ford reunited on stage again back on January 9 tp perform The Runaways classic “Cherry Bomb.” Joining them during Lita’s headlining concert as part of the nightclub’s month-long 50th-anniversary celebration was Slash. So next time you are out in LA, you must put it on your must see list. And then stroll down the strip to have a rocktail at the Rainbow Bar & Grill and check out to see who’s playing at the famous Roxy. Ah, LA, I used to call you home……Oh man, Metal Hammer posted an article about a Christmas party Dimebag Darrell had at his house in Arlington, TX back in 2003. Check it out here. Although I am sure Jerry Cantrell is not pleased about this being unearthed, but it is certainly a part some of us would have given our right arms to be at, eh? BTW: hoping to get someone from Alice In Chains on the hotLine this week to talk about their charity event they are doing with their Fantasy Football League….And finally today, since we’re on LA musical history, the LA Forum, is back in business and reopened with an in-house residency by the 70’s LA rock band The Eagles which begins later this month. The round arena has been renovated and includes a new vinyl roof that is made to look like the old LP’s from back in the day when you played records on a turntable. The gigantic version of The Eagles’ breakthrough album, Hotel California, actually spins around. Passengers on roughly 1,700 flights arriving daily at LAX throughout January will be able to see the 407-foot-wide printed vinyl disc – which actually spins at 17 miles per hour and was constructed by a crew of over 75 workers – in honor of the venue’s $100 million renovation effort, according to officials. Built in just 10 days, the nation’s only 120-foot aluminum truss circle is composed of 250,000 square feet of printed vinyl and over 50,000 pounds – about 25 tons – of materials, with letters as tall as the iconic Hollywood sign. The Eagles will be the first performer featured at the Forum since renovation efforts began last year after Madison Square Garden Company bought the 17,500-seat venue in 2012. I used to go there to see countless bands, including the Eagles and Kiss back in the 80’s. Ah, the good ole days!
