There was this story on the news this morning about a shooting in a movie theater over texting and talking on the phone. Of course, that is a tragic and horrible thing, but I do think some sort of penalty, fine or punishment should be invoked if you are doing that when the lights go out. Seriously. No, I am not kidding. It drives me (and obviously another person to actually SHOOT someone) crazy when that happens! What is it people don’t understand about turning off your cell phone?….Oh and yesterday, while trying to get to the chiropractor’s office, we were snarled in traffic here on the upper west side. Why? Because Tom’s Restaurant, whose neon sign you see in Seinfeld shows, that street corner was being used to film something with Jerry Seinfeld and George Castanza (aka Jason Alexander) and it clogged up the entire hood! Ugh, only in NY. Speculators are speculating it was either for something for the SuperBowl, or possibly a return of the beloved series or probably more realistic, Jerry was filming his video blog, Comedians in Cars Having Coffee or whatever that is called Meanwhile, speaking of the SuperBowl, U2 filmed a video that will be seen at halftime, possibly of a new song they plan to debut……Couple of things to mention today that are available. Devour The Day‘s debut album Time & Pressure drops and Sully Erna of Godsmack‘s acting debut as a police officer can be seen in the DVD release of “Army of the Damned.” And then there’s the fine Bruce Springsteen album High Hopes, which features Tom Morello on 8 of the 12 tracks on the album, including a duet on a new version of Bruce’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad.” Hard to believe Rage Against The Machine covered that way back in 1997!…Mike Wengren of Disturbed and Fight or Flight announced he and his wife Tina are expecting a baby and it’s a boy! The couple already have the sweetest little girl, Ava. Congrats to the Wengrens!….Only a few more weeks til I get to see the Foo Fighters play here in NYC. Oh be still my beating heart. And here’s some DAVE news! We don’t know if it’s been timed to coincide with today being Dave Grohl‘s 45th birthday — and here’s hoping you have a happy one, Dave — but rare demo recordings from the second band Grohl ever played in have surfaced on Soundcloud. Long before he was in Nirvana, Foo Fighters or even the Washington D.C. hardcore band Scream, Grohl played in a punk trio called Dain Bramage. The group lasted less than two years, releasing two demos on cassette and a vinyl album called I Scream Not Coming Down, with the latter relatively easy to find online. But now Antiquiet has posted the earlier demo recordings online, uncovering eight songs from the group’s 1986 recording sessions at Grohl’s favorite old studio, the Laundry Room. Grohl’s first documented band, even before Dain Bramage, was originally called Freak Baby and then Mission Impossible. Grohl reunited with former Dain Bramage frontman Reuben Radding and bassist Dave Smith last year, tweeting a photo of the three ex-bandmates, although we wouldn’t expect any gigs or new music anytime soon. Grohl and Foo Fighters are currently at work on that band’s eighth studio album, which Grohl has hinted will be written and recorded “in a way that I don’t think has been done before.” (Thanks Pulse of Radio)…Marilyn Manson says he’s begun work on a follow-up album to 2012’s Born Villain, telling Kerrang!magazine, “It’s very cinematic. The redneck in me comes out in my voice and it’s got some old blues mixed with the very hard elements. I want to retain what I think is good about the past, the music I did and who I am.”….Also on the news today in NYC, the community board of a a lower east side neighborhood at the corner of Rivington and Ludlow Streets will vote today on whether to rename the intersection Beastie Boys Square. It happens to be the site where the trio shot the cover picture of their 2nd album, Paul’s Boutique. Meanwhile, a park in Brooklyn was renamed Adam Yauch Park last year. NYC loves the Beastie Boys!…..Revolver mag is sponsoring a tour with Sick Puppies, Lacuna Coil, Eyes Set To Kill and Cliver. (They’re calling it the Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock Tour, which, sorry boys, is lame.) Anyhow, find the dates in Road Rage under Sick Puppies….As mentioned earlier, today Dave Grohl is 45. Zakk Wylde is 47 and Arrested Development‘s Jason Bateman is also 45.
