Good morning! Although if I had overslept any longer, it would be afternoon! Congrats to all the Grammy winners, especially to my friend Dave Grohl, who along with Paul McCartney, Pat Smear and Krist Novoselic, won for Best Rock Song for “Cut Me Some Slack” off the soundtrack to Sound City. Black Sabbath won Best Metal Performance for “God Is Dead,”(watch Fuse interview with the band and Ozzy‘s son Jack Osbourne here) and Led Zeppelin won for their live recording of their Ahmet Ertegun Tribute show in London, Celebration Day. Missed a lot of the night’s events, but saw Metallica perform “One” with renowned Chinese pianist Lang Lang (watch here) and the collaboration with Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Josh Homme and Lindsay Buckingham, (watch here) and members of both NIN and Queens Of The Stone Age. (and yeah, it sucked when they read the billboards over their performance at the show’s end, but hey, the network has to run the sponsors’ ads!) Trent was pissed and tweeted about it. I’m kinda bummed that my DVR is messed up, so I wasn’t able to watch the parts I missed! But a friend commented on Facebook that not one artist who gave an acceptance speech thanked Radio. Hey, give us a little love, ok? Sadly, the Grammys omitted Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman in their In Memoriam segment. Huge oversight, I’d say! They did recognize Chi Cheng of The Deftones…Pulse of Radio reports in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Nine Inch Nails main man Trent Reznor hinted at a new project coming later this year. Asked about recording and touring plans for 2014, Reznor replied, “We’re leaving to go to tour mid-to-late February . . . We’ve got dates booked through the end of the summer. A lot of touring ahead. Just started on a new product. Can’t tell you what it is yet. It will take place while touring. New music maybe this fall. Every spare second, and even seconds that aren’t spare, are trying to wrangle this new creation into shape.”…Slash, he never is not working on something! He’s one of the many artists who contribute to a new compilation called Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume One, on which numerous musicians cover songs — many of them largely overlooked — from Bob Dylan’s 1980s catalog. The time period ranges from 1980’s Saved album to 1990’s Under The Red Sky. Slash collaborates with Ween‘s Aaron Freeman on a track titled “Wiggle Wiggle” from the latter album. Other artists featured on the March 25th release include Deer Tick, Glen Hansard, Built To Spill, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady and more. (AntiMusic)….Metal Hammer reports Motorhead has had to cancel their rescheduled European tour. They posted “It is with great regret that Motörhead has to announce the cancellation of their European tour, scheduled to start February, 2014,” reads a statement from the Motörhead camp. “Many concerted, diligent and focused efforts were made by founding member, and international icon, Lemmy Kilmister to deal with a range of health issues relating to diabetes. While there has been undoubted progress, Lemmy and the band were advised by doctors that it was still too soon to resume full touring activities, and so for the good of the future, the band and Lemmy reluctantly agreed to cancel. No-one is hurting more over this than Lemmy, and he feels the aggravation and inconvenience of every ticket, and every method of transportation, already paid for by loyal fans in anticipation of the tour. Being a road warrior of over 50 dedicated, non-stop years, it is equally distressing for him to be unable to occupy the top lounge of the trusty tour bus (his spiritual home) but Lemmy recognises that his long-term health must win. It goes without saying that Lemmy profusely apologises for inconveniences caused, but he does want everyone to know that he is continuing on the road to a full recovery, and that the prognosis long-term is very good.” Hopefully they will resume in time for Rock On The Range!….Happy 70th today to Nick Mason of Pink Floyd! And Happy 46th to Mike Patton of Faith No More, Tomahawk, Mr Bungle and others too numerous to name!
