A Perfect Circle has released the new song, “The Doomed” (https://youtu.be/P6kd0FQhd5k). The track is the first music to be heard from the multi-platinum outfit’s highly anticipated 2018 full-length. It was announced today by the band’s publicist.
“Fourteen years have passed since we released ‘eMOTIVe,’ ” said Maynard James Keenan. “A new release is long overdue. In light of this current difficult and polarized social, spiritual and political climate, we artist types need to open our big mouths and share the light a little louder.”

A Perfect Circle recently announced they had signed a worldwide recording deal with BMG and are in the studio working with producer Dave Sardy (mixer/producer Nine Inch Nails, Incubus, Oasion the follow-up to 2004’s eMOTIVe. Yeah! Finally! Five Finger Death Punch has reportedly resolved its legal battle with its longtime record company, Prospect Park. As a result, the band and the label have announced the release of a greatest hits album with two new songs in December, with a brand new full-length album to follow next year. Five Finger Death Punch already completed its seventh studio effort almost a year ago, but contractual issues with the record company has delayed its arrival.
Guitarist Jason Hook told SpazioRock, “Everybody that’s heard the record so far thinks it’s our best record. I’m super excited about it. I thought we f**king knocked it out of the park. There’s some really cool, different things on there that are slightly different for us. There’s certainly a chunk of what you would expect from Five Finger Death Punch, but there’s some solid songs that are slightly outside of our regular box. But everyone thinks it’s a smash.”
Prospect Park initially sued Five Finger Death Punch in 2016 for breach of contract, alleging that the group wanted to rush the recording of a new album. The company claimed that the band’s contract prohibited it from beginning to record a new effort until at least nine months had passed since the release of the previous one. Five Finger Death Punch’s last studio effort, Got Your Six, came out in September 2015.
The group signed a new North American recording deal with Rise Records last year. They also filed a lawsuit against Prospect Park in April, asking a judge to release them from their contract and order the company to pay over a million dollars in damages.
Five Finger Death Punch has also dealt with singer Ivan Moody‘s struggles with substance abuse, which forced him to miss a number of shows last year and this past spring. At press time, Ivan is said to be doing great! Whew!

Rolling Stone reports Prophets Of Rage, the supergroup featuring members of Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, salute peaceful protest and slam gun culture in a new video for the song “Strength in Numbers.” The clip touches on the ongoing debate over Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players taking a knee before games during the national anthem to protest police brutality, alternating that with clips of actors in black face and people at gun shows. The video concludes with a shot of Mike Pence standing during the national anthem at an Indianapolis Colts game earlier this month — a game he then left in a staged photo op when players knelt during the song.
In a statement about the clip, Prophets Of Rage MC Chuck D wrote, “ALMOST anything can be built or toppled with a collective force. A movement is never about an individual. On the opposition of Colin Kaepernick in today’s sports world, we ask ‘is it the KNEE or is it The NEGRO’”?
We asked guitarist Tom Morello if Prophets experienced a lot of backlash to their political message: “Of course there is political backlash to what we’re saying, and backlash to the music that we’re playing. But if you have ideas that no one complains about and you’re making music that no one complains about, then you probably have pretty s**tty ideas and s**tty music.”
“Strength in Numbers” appears on Prophets Of Rage’s self-titled debut LP, which they issued last month. The group, which plays songs from Rage, Public Enemy and Cypress in addition to original material, made its live debut in May 2016 in Los Angeles. They next play at the Voodoo Music Experience festival in New Orleans at the end of this month.
