The Pulse Of Radio and The PRP reporting on the tribute concert to Chester Bennington held in Los Angeles on Friday evening. The event was hosted by Linkin Park and with guest singers/performers who included Jonathan Davis of Korn, M Shadows & Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold, Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon, Jeremy McKinnon of A Day To Remember, Daron Malakian and Shavo Odadjian of System Of A Down, Blink 182 and more! The evening also saw the live debut of a song co-vocalist Mike Shinoda wrote roughly a week after Bennington‘s passing, called “Looking For An Answer“. Shinoda mentioned during the set he was unsure if the song would surface again in the future. He also stated it is not yet decided if the band will continue on without Bennington.
Several of the band’s biggest hits, including “Numb” and “In The End,” were sung entirely by the audience, while a spotlight focused on a solitary mic stand on the stage. Shinoda thanked the fans at the sold-out venue repeatedly for their love and support over the past few months.
Prior to playing “In The End, Shinoda told the crowd, “Our special guest on this one is our favorite special guest of the whole night. And that’s f**ked up to say because of all these great people that have come out tonight, and if I say that, then that makes them look bad. But I do mean our favorite guests — it’s you guys.”
Chester’s widow Talinda spoke near the end of the show, saying, “Chester and I always loved bringing people together and he was filled with joy when our house was full of family, friends, kids, dogs, cats, birds, turtles — the more the merrier. And he would have loved all of this tonight.” After thanking her late husband, management, family members, the band and fans across the world for their support, Talinda added, “In the past 14 weeks, you have lifted each other up. You have lifted me up. You have lifted our children up . . . two of the things that brought Chester the most joy in life were spending time with his family and doing whatever he could to help others. He was incredibly proud of the work done through Music For Relief — he knew it saved lives. And saving lives is exactly what we plan to do in Chester’s memory.”
Almost all the night’s performers came onstage for the final song of the evening, “Bleed It Out.” Proceeds from the concert, which was billed as Linkin Park And Friends Celebrate Life In Honor Of Chester Bennington, will go to Music For Relief‘s One More Light Fund in memory of Bennington.

Five Finger Death Punch has confirmed a Dec 1st release date for its greatest hits collection, A Decade Of Destruction, and has released one of two new tracks included on the album, a song called “Trouble.” Guitarist Zoltan Bathory told Lou Brutus singer Ivan Moody‘s lyrics for the song were inspired by Moody’s own recent struggles to stay sober: “Ivan is the hand grenade without the, you know (laughs), without the pin, so he wrote the lyrics obviously and I think it’s about himself, that he is trouble. You know, he’s straightening out. It’s good to see him getting sober, getting straight, and so I guess this song now is in a — now it’s a past tense song.“
The other new song included with the set is titled “Gone Away.” Drummer Jeremy Spencer told our affiliate Razor 94.7 he was unsure about doing a greatest hits LP at first, saying, ““I was like ‘Do we even have enough hits?’ And then we looked and we have like 13 or 15 radio hits.” He added, “The label thought it was the right time. So we were like ‘Cool, let’s put some new songs on it though.’”
The hits collection and an already completed new studio album are part of a deal to settle a legal dispute and close out the band’s contract with its label, Prospect Park. Five Finger Death Punch’s seventh full-length LP, which was finished nearly a year ago, will follow up 2015’s Got Your Six and will be released in spring 2018.
The band is currently preparing to embark on a European arena tour with In Flames and Of Mice & Men.
Disturbed‘s incredibly successful cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound Of Silence” is now the soundtrack of a new video released by NASA. According to The PRP, the footage in the clip was filmed from the International Space Station during Expedition 53 and was captured by Commander Randy Bresnik as well as flight engineers Sergey Ryazanskiy and Paolo Nespoli. The song underneath expansive shots of the Earth, views of giant urban electrical grids and flashes of sunlight cresting across the curve of the planet.
Disturbed singer David Draiman told me a while back the cover has been a success beyond the band’s wildest expectations: “It doesn’t stop being surreal. Every single step of the way, it’s another incredible surprise, it’s incredibly gratifying, and it’s succeeded way above and beyond our expectations.”
Since it’s August 21st, 2015 release Disturbed‘s take on the track has gone double platinum in the U.S. alone for sales and/or streams of more than two million copies. The video for the track, released in December 2015, has been seen more than 292 million times, a record number of views on YouTube for the group.| Paul Simon reached out to make contact with Draiman and compliment him for the band’s take on his song after seeing them perform it live on Conan. “The Sound Of Silence” appeared on Disturbed’s sixth album, Immortalized, which ended a four-year hiatus for the quartet and was its fifth album to enter the Billboard 200 chart at Number One.
The group announced plans earlier this year to record and release an acoustic EP before starting its next full-length studio album, but has not provided any updates since. I’ve noticed some social media posts indicating something is brewing, so stay tuned! (The Pulse Of Radio and The PRP.)
Foo Fighters resumed their North American tour on Thursday night (Oct 26th) in Birmingham, AL, after postponing three shows earlier in the week — in Lexington, KY, Nashville and Memphis — due to an unspecified “family emergency.” Frontman Dave Grohl did not mention the problem during the concert in Birmingham and the band has issued no further statements on the matter.
The show did allow Grohl a chance to bring a fan onstage toward the end of the 22-song set to play guitar with the band on “Big Me.” Grohl explained an audience member guested with them the week before and now everyone thought they could perform with Foo Fighters. Grohl made the new guest, named Jeremy, swear he could play the song and had him demonstrate the chords.
Grohl also led the crowd in a singalong of “Happy Birthday” after discovering it was Jeremy’s big day, before jokingly telling him to “get the f**k off my stage!” Last week Foo Fighters brought up an audience member named Pierce to play drums on a cover of “Under Pressure.”
The Foos recently announced a new leg of North American dates which will begin on Apr 18th in Austin, TX and will conclude on Jul 29th with the band’s return to Wrigley Field in Chicago. The three postponed shows have been rescheduled as part of that trek. Foo Fighters are touring in support of their ninth studio album, Concrete And Gold, which debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 album chart last month. (Thanks JamBase and The Pulse Of Radio.)
Alternative Nation reporting the former bandmates and children of late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland paid tribute to the singer on what would have been his 50th birthday this past Friday (Oct 27th). Bassist Robert DeLeo wrote on Twitter, “A very gifted young man with such a beautiful voice would have turned 50 today. Happy Birthday and much love Scott.” The band’s official Twitter account posted, “Happy Birthday Scott. 50 years ago today the world was given a gift. Thank you for all you gave us. Happy Birthday.”
DeLeo told us he and the other members of STP were struck by Scott’s energy when they first met him: “He was a lion, you know, he really was. In every way in life, he was almost to the point of being hyper about creating and getting things done. We knew that he had that energy. Not only in the voice — I knew he could sing and he was a real singer — but the energy he brought along with that, it was something that he always had from when I met him.”
Meanwhile, Scott’s children, Noah and Lucy, posted their first public comments since their father’s death on Facebook. The siblings posted a list online titled “Songs That Remind Me Of My Dad,” writing, “Happy Birthday Daddy. Here are a few songs that remind us of you on this special day and every day. XOXO-Noah & Lucy.” Among the tracks the children listed — with commentary from one or both on each — were Weezer‘s “Islands In The Sun,” their father’s version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” the Beatles‘ “Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds,” “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys, “Wake Me Up When September Ends” from Green Day, and several STP songs, including “Dead And Bloated,” “Cinnamon,” “Trippin’ On A Hole In A Paper Heart” and “Kitchenware & Candybars.”
About one song on the list, Kelly Clarkson‘s “Since You’ve Been Gone,” Lucy wrote, “Every dad with a little girl when this song came out was probably familiar with it. He even took us to her concert and danced with me on his shoulders while I rocked out with my little fists in the air.”
Scott Weiland died in December 2015 from an overdose of drugs and alcohol while touring with his solo act the Wildabouts. Stone Temple Pilots recently reissued their 1992 debut album, Core, in a deluxe 25th anniversary edition and will be releasing a new song very soon and will announce their new singer. Stay tuned!
Ozzy Osbourne says he can’t decide whether he wants to make a new full-length solo studio album or release standalone singles. Speaking to the Orange County Register, Ozzy said full LPs were not “cost-effective” anymore, explaining, “You actually lose money because people aren’t buying records anymore. A couple of songs, maybe I’ll do that and put that out. I’ll go to Sharon (Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife and manager) and say, ‘I want to do an album’ and then I’ll go to her and say, ‘I don’t want to do an album.’ I really can’t make up my mind.” Ozzy’s last solo set, Scream, arrived in 2010.
