Ohhhhh, today I have to go to the dentist. Since I was a kid, I have always feared the dentist. And I have to have some major work done. AAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!
Well, last night a friend emailed me to ask me what I knew about this Stone Temple Pilots event happening for the satellite company, Sirius XM. Being a subscriber, I was kind of shocked I didn’t receive an email myself, but ok. Apparently, SOMETHING is about to happen.
It appears Stone Temple Pilots will make their return to the stage on Tuesday, Nov 14th at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA. The show is an invitation-only event for satellite radio subscribers and tickets will be given out in a random drawing. It is speculated the concert will mark the first STP performance with the band’s new lead singer, whose identity has not yet been revealed.
Stone Temple Pilots went through some 15,000 submissions before finding the band’s new frontman, nearly two years after the passing of original vocalist Scott Weiland and more than three months following the death of Weiland’s replacement, Chester Bennington.
Bassist Robert DeLeo told us choosing a new frontman was not something the band took lightly: “This is not an overnight decision. This is a series of getting together with someone and really figuring out what they are all about. And I think that’s what we need to come to the realization of deciding with one individual, you know.“
The band revealed last month that they found “somebody that fits the bill” as the band’s new lead singer. STP has been without a vocalist since November 2015, when Bennington — who joined the group in early 2013 — departed to spend more time with his main band Linkin Park
And earlier this week, I was informed of an impending single coming, but then I got all kinds of push-back on it. “Oh, the band isn’t done with it yet,” “The band will release it when they are ready to.” Blah blah blah. So NOW I can see that something is definitely brewing. I WANT TO KNOW WHO IS THE NEW LEAD SINGER!!!!!! ARGH! Guess we will have to stay tuned!
Yesterday, I told you about Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters guest hosting the Halloween edition of Jimmy Kimmel‘s show, but I forgot his other guest was Kristen Bell, and THAT happened! (You’re welcome.)
Yeah, we all know that many artists do NOT love the idea of you filming at their concerts. Corey Taylor and David Draiman are just a couple who’ve come out to say, “Put your phones down!” Now comes this from Jerry Horton of Papa Roach!
Jerry slammed fans who film concerts with phone cameras, saying he finds the practice “annoying.” Asked by Finland’s Kaaos TV if Papa Roach sees fans at its shows who film the performances on their phones, Horton said, “We do see a lot of it, and it’s kind of annoying to me, only because I feel like you’re paying money for the experience, then you should have the experience and not… I feel like if you’re gonna watch it on a screen, you can always just go on YouTube and watch it on YouTube.“
Horton added, “But I guess people want to have that memory forever, maybe, so I can’t be too critical. But, for me, I just couldn’t do it.”
One of the most pronounced changes at concerts in recent years has been people who record performances on their phones. Many fans, as well as artists, have taken issue with this, denouncing the habit as disrespectful. Recently when I attended Pete Townshend‘s Quadraphenia performance with an orchestra at Tanglewood, they made an announcement to put away all electronic devices, but many did not and filmed away. Of course, I made a stink with some folks around me, It got ugly. But point made!

The Pulse Of Radio & Alternative Nation reporting Linkin Park co-vocalist Mike Shinoda opened up about his relationship with late singer Chester Bennington in a new interview with Kerrang! magazine. Shinoda revealed, “I spent more time with Chester than anyone else in my adult life, except for my wife. We were always around each other. People would say we were like brothers, but we were different because brothers are bound by blood. Technically we were dudes in a band who could break up and walk away from each other if we wanted to. I think it’s more exceptional that we never did that.“
Shinoda said that Bennington was devoted to his family, remarking, “He deeply loved his wife and all his kids. His family is really complicated in terms of blood relation, adoption, and whatever . . . I’m not a perfect parent, nobody is, but Chester had the very best intentions. He had such a huge heart and he loved his family more than anything.”
Shinoda also spoke about Bennington’s efforts to work on his life and sobriety, saying, “I know he worked really hard to do what he did. He woke up in the morning and spent time with his family. He worked out for two hours. He went to AA meetings, or therapy, or whatever worked that part of his brain. He warmed up his voice. He did all of those things just to exist in everyday life . . . I know he worked so hard to be the guy that everybody saw. It didn’t come easily for him at all.”
Linkin Park paid tribute to Bennington last Friday night (Oct 27th) with an emotional three-hour show that featured numerous guests joining the band onstage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

They’ve released a lyric video for its cover version of the Faith No More classic “Epic.” The track will appear on their first-ever box set, Decade: History Of Our Evolution, which will be made available through Rockshop Entertainment. The set will include six albums: “Decade”, “Decade Acoustic”, “Decade 2”, “Decade 2 Acoustic”, “Decade Demos” and “Decade Rarities”.
Says singer Crispin Earl: “Growing up, Faith No More was one of our favorite bands. Not only did they have great songs, but they had an uncompromising passion for what they did musically. We wanted to harness some of that inspiration with this cover and hopefully do some justice to one of the most underrated and influential bands of our time.”
