Linkin Park singer Mike Shinoda will release three new solo tracks as a digital EP on Thursday (January 25th). Reportedly titled Post Traumatic, the trio of songs includes “Looking For An Answer,” which he wrote shortly after the death of his Linkin Park bandmate Chester Bennington this past July and performed live at the Bennington tribute concert held last October at the Hollywood Bowl.
This marks the first new music made by one of the five surviving members of Linkin Park since Bennington took his own life at his Los Angeles-area home last July 20th. Since the all-star tribute concert last fall, at which the band performed with a number of guest stars, Linkin Park has not announced whether the group intends to continuing recording and touring together. The band released a new concert album in December, One More Light Live, recorded on its last tour with Bennington.

Greta Van Fleet is now in the studio recording its first full-length album, with the band planning to work through the end of February. A late spring or early summer release is expected. The sessions are taking place in Nashville and Detroit with the same production team that helmed the band’s acclaimed breakout EP Black Smoke Rising and the follow-up From The Fires double EP.
The album will feature songs pulled from an archive of tracks written over the past few years as well as brand new material penned in 2016 when the band spent a week in the Tennessee woods. Guitarist Jake Kiszka told us the band may have too much to choose from: “The whole canon’s packed full so, you know, we’ve got enough material to blast out an album. And we’re continuously writing more as well, so it’s — I wouldn’t say that it’s an issue at all but it becomes more selective now that we have so much material.”
Once recording is finished, Greta Van Fleet will kick off its 2018 tour schedule at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday, April 13th, followed by a mix of headlining shows and other festival dates. Tickets for most of the headlining gigs go on sale to the public this Friday at gretavanfleet.com.
Metallica fans have tallied more than 2,000 signatures on a petition to proclaim February 10th “Cliff Burton Day” in Castro Valley, California in honor of the late Metallica bassist. Burton was born on the 10th in Castro Valley. His life was tragically cut short at the age of 24 in a tour bus crash on September 27th, 1986 in Sweden.
Petition organizer Robert Souza asked the Castro Valley Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) to back his effort, and the Council voted 7-0 in favor of it. The issue now goes to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, who will meet on February 6th.
Burton was asked to join Metallica in 1982 after the band saw him perform with his group at the time, Trauma. The bassist was not willing to move to Los Angeles, where Metallica was based at the time, so they decided to move to the San Francisco area so that he would join. Burton played on Metallica’s first three studio albums — Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets — and co-wrote classic songs like “Ride The Lightning,” “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” “Fade To Black,” “Creeping Death” and “Master Of Puppets.” Burton’s initial replacement in the group was Jason Newsted, who stayed in the lineup until 2001. Rob Trujillo joined in 2003 and remains in the band to this day. Metallica has yet to comment on the proposal.
Pearl Jam has confirmed the rest of the concerts that the band is playing this summer. Dubbed “The Away Shows,” the concerts will take place on August 13th at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Montana, August 18th and 20th at Wrigley Field in Chicago and September 2nd and 4th at Fenway Park in Boston. The concerts joined the band’s previously announced “Home Shows,” two nights at Safeco Field in Seattle. Verified Fan pre-sale tickets go on sale February 16th at venue local time, while general public tickets open for sale on February 21st.
Dave Grohl recently sat for an interview to help promote tourism in the city of Seattle. The Foo Fighters frontman talks about his first experiences with the city touring with his original band Scream, and later recounts his first day living in the city as the new drummer for Nirvana. He also gives a series of personal anecdotes about his often painful relationship with the city, and says he’s always wishing “Seattle would just take (him) back.”
Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has shared a teaser for his new solo single, “What It Is,” which will premiere on Thursday (January 25th). The song will be included on the soundtrack to a new film called American Satan, which arrives on Friday (January 26th). Davis has also been preparing a new solo album that is expected out this spring, although it’s not clear whether “What It Is” will be on that LP as well.
