Marilyn Manson had an onstage meltdown on Thursday night during a show at the Paramount in Huntington, New York, leading many fans to lash out at the singer on social media and demand a refund. Manson came out on stage and performed incoherently with his back to the crowd for most of the abbreviated set. He seemed to confuse his own band by his actions as well as several songs were started and stopped.
Fans took to social media to accuse the singer of being high on drugs or alcohol and demand their money back. One fan wrote, “Tried seeing Marilyn Manson tonight. We have seen him on 4 other occasions and always entertained. This time due to being so drugged, drunk, or sick unfortunately this concert was a complete failure. I know what you’re going to say but it is sad to see a complete spiral downward of a human due to drugs.”
Another concertgoer commented, “Marilyn Manson put on the WORST show I have ever seen. Played 5 songs, bitched about people not saying “I Love You” and walked off #MarilynManson #worstconcert #refund” One attendee told Newsday, “He was too messed up and couldn’t perform. It was disappointing.”
The concert was a make-up date for a show that was originally supposed to happen last October but which ended up getting postponed after Manson broke his right leg in two places at a show in Manhattan. Manson reportedly played an “amazing” show on Friday night, February 16th in Sayreville, New Jersey, one day after the Huntington debacle.
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has revealed that he has finished writing the “words and melodies” to all but one new song for the band’s next LP. Keenan tweeted on Friday, February 16th, “Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks wont change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory. Still waiting for the FINAL on 1.”
Keenan added, “Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer.” Guitarist Adam Jones later wrote on Instagram that recording will begin in March.
Keenan has said very little about the new Tool album in recent years, with this message being perhaps his most specific in a long time. He also sings on the new album from A Perfect Circle, which arrives in April. Tool hasn’t released any new music since the 10,000 Days LP, which came out in May 2006.
Jones told us not long ago that everyone in Tool respects the fact that the other members also have lives outside the band: “Everyone’s got their own lives. We have kids, we have other projects, we have other interests. You know, it’s like a marriage, you know, as you get older you kind of have to work at it and, you know, your partner changes and you have to kind of work to keep it going and keeping it positive and keeping the communication going and compromising and the respect and all that stuff.”
The instrumental members of the band have been working steadily on music for the past year, with drummer Danny Carey recently saying that the disc could be released sometime this year — although the band has not started recording yet.
Tool’s only currently scheduled appearance of 2018 is a May 18th headlining performance at Somerset, Wisconsin’s Northern Invasion festival.
Muse has announced a one-off “By Request” live show at Paris’ La Cigale that will take place this Saturday, February 24th. Tickets for the concert were made available on Saturday, February 17th for Muse fan club members only. Ticket holders can choose and submit their top five tracks, with all votes submitted to be collated and used to curate the trio’s set on the night of the show.
For those not able to attend, the show will be broadcast globally on the band’s Facebook, Twitter/Periscope and YouTube channels, which will also allow viewers from around the world an opportunity to also vote on various songs in the set in real time.
Drummer Dominic Howard told us a while back that making up a set list was getting more difficult over time: “Every album you do, the set list is getting harder and harder and harder to pick the tracks because we’ve got too many (laughs). So it’s quite difficult now to get a set list with everything that you want to play, and it makes it really difficult to chuck in the old tracks. So it’s getting harder and harder.”
Muse released a new single and video last Thursday, February 15th called “Thought Contagion,” watch it below. The track follows “Dig Down,” which was released last year. Bellamy told Rolling Stone on Thursday that the British trio is “halfway through” the recording of its eighth album, and is releasing songs as they are completed. The band intends to issue two more singles in the coming months, with the full album arriving either in the fall or early 2019.
Muse will take a break from the studio to headline a few North American festivals this spring and summer, including Bonnaroo, BottleRock Napa Valley, Carolina Rebellion, and Mexico’s Pal’Norte Music Festival.
Three Days Grace has shared “I Am An Outsider,” the title cut from its new album Outsider. Drummer Neil Sanderson told us that the song sums up the themes that the new LP tackles: “‘I Am An Outsider’ basically is about deciding that you don’t want to be exposed to so many influences in your life, and that can be people that have a negative influence on you, or that can be, like, you know, just scenarios that try to force you into believing things a certain way or doing things a certain way. And we’ve always kind of felt like that, I think. We’ve always written about being sort of, you know, the odd person out and being comfortable with that.”
Bassist Brad Walst said, “To me, ‘Outsider’ represents the journey to find your place. The world feels crazy at times. We try to get away from that every once in a while. We do our own thing, and we’re comfortable doing it.” The song “I Am An Outsider” follows up “The Mountain,” the first official single from the new disc.
Other tracks on the 12-song set, which is out March 9th, include “Right Left Wrong,” “Infra-Red,” “Nothing To Lose But You,” “Me Against You,” “Strange Days,” “The New Real” and more.
Outsider is the second Three Days Grace effort to feature Brad’s brother Matt Walst on lead vocals, following the departure of original frontman Adam Gontier in late 2012.
Matt’s debut with the group, Human, debuted at Number 16 on the Billboard 200 album chart and yielded two chart-topping singles in “Painkiller” and “I Am Machine.”
Pearl Jam took to Twitter on Friday, February 16th to voice the band’s support for the #ThrowThemOut movement, which was started last week in the wake of the massacre that took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last Wednesday (February 14th). The #ThrowThemOut movement intends to throw out government officials who will not make changes to gun laws.
Pearl Jam wrote at its Twitter account, “We’re done with ‘leaders’ who refuse to lead on commonsense gun safety laws,” with the tweet accompanied by a poster for the #ThrowThemOut movement, run by New York-based non-profit Everytown for Gun Safety. The photo highlights the six steps in “an action plan to kick out lawmakers beholden to the gun lobby.”
It remains to be seen whether the #ThrowThemOut initiative gains steam as the country heads into the mid-term elections later this year. Politicians such as Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Florida senator Marco Rubio have been slammed online for accepting campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association.
Pearl Jam has been writing its 11th studio LP and is heading out on European and North American tour dates this spring and summer. In addition to a full month of European dates, Pearl Jam will play two shows apiece at Seattle’s Safeco Field, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and Boston’s Fenway Park, in addition to a gig in Missoula, Montana. It’s not clear whether more North American dates are in the works.
Royal Blood has released a video for the song “Look Like You Know.” The track is lifted from the British duo’s second studio album How Did We Get So Dark? which arrived last June. The footage in the clip was filmed during the band’s three sold-out nights at London’s Alexandra Palace last November. Royal Blood will return to North America in May for both headlining shows and gigs with Queens Of The Stone Age.
Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy has released the lyric video for the song “Devil On The Wall,” taken from his debut solo album, Year Of The Tiger. Due out on March 9th, the 12-song concept LP was inspired by the loss of Kennedy’s father when he was a child.
