Good morning Radicals! A new week of beautiful rock and roll lies ahead! Let’s see what’s in store:
Smashing Pumpkins will kick off their Bright and Oh So Shiny reunion tour in July and the band’s Billy Corgan has now shared a “proposed” list of songs including a handful of covers. Songs included are Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” and Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
They previously announced that they would only play songs from five of their nine studio albums, ranging from their debut, Gish, through 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God.
Smashing Pumpkins’ have made recent mentions of the 25th anniversary of their 2nd album, Siamese Dream. Fans are hopeful that the album will be included on the tour as well. The first show is July 12 in Glendale, Arizona.
Metallica has announced details of a late summer and early fall North American arena tour. For the last few days, they’ve been teasing a special announcement via the band’s official web site and social media channels.
Although they didn’t give details, some arenas have been more than obvious by positing videos of the song, “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” Some cities included are Lincoln, Nebraska, New York City, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Dates should be announced later today. We’ll add them to the Road Rage page as soon as they’re available.
In anticipation of their next album, Breaking Benjamin released a new song called “Blood.” Ben Burnley commented about the new music and said: “People have always really liked the heavier side of the band. I think that’s what they sort of gravitate towards. But we also make sure to explore our melodic and softer side too.” He went on to say, “We just tried to make it more extreme. The softer side on this album is really soft, and the heavy side is really heavy. We decided to give everybody what they want to the furthest degree.”
The band’s 6th studio album, Ember, will be out on April 13.
Just last month, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis announced his solo tour and he’s now ready for his album to be released. In a recent radio interview he talked about separating his music from the band Korn. He said, “It’s completely different. It’s a different thing. It’s something I’ve been working on for 10 years. It’s just a crazy, different world music hybrid of all kinds of things, and there are all kinds of different players who play on the record. And I’m really proud of it.”
Davis, who occasionally does solo projects, said he actually created most of the album back in 2007 and 2008, but was on a different label and had different management then. He explained: I was signed to another record label and unfortunately, the people that signed me left. Some other people came in, they wanted to do it, and they ended up not doing it, so I got the record back.”
Davis kicks off his solo tour in April and the new album is tentatively due around the same time.
Finally, we’d like to wish a very happy birthday to Prophets of Rage (and Rage Against the Machine) bassist Tim Commerford!
