Good morning Radicals! Thursday’s coming in hot with some fresh new tunes!
Halestorm will release its fourth album, titled Vicious, on July 27th. The band shared the first single and video from the disc, called “Uncomfortable,” on Wednesday morning, May 30th. The set was recorded last year in Nashville with producer Nick Raskulinecz, and is available for pre-order at all retailers and streaming services. All pre-orders get an instant download of “Uncomfortable.”
Singer Lzzy Hale told us that “Uncomfortable” came about as a result of a suggestion by Raskulinecz: “When we were talking to Nick, he basically said, ‘Well, when was the last time that the four of you just kind of got together and jammed and started with, you know, kind of music first?’ And we’re like, ‘Man, it’s been years since that happened, you know.’ So this particular song ended up starting as an instrumental, and then kind of took it from there, and then it made the cut.”
The band is offering a deluxe edition of Vicious that includes the new album on standard vinyl, plus a limited-edition opaque purple colored double vinyl with enhanced cover art and bonus tracks, limited to 1500 units worldwide. These are available at Halestorm’s online store.
Among the other tracks on the album are “Black Vultures” — which the band has performed live — “Skulls,” “Buzz,” “Do Not Disturb,” “Conflicted,” “Killing Ourselves To Live,” “Heart of Novocaine,” “Painkiller,” “White Dress,” “The Silence” and the title track.
Halestorm will embark on the second leg of its U.S. tour showcasing all female-fronted hard rock bands on July 27th in Kansas City, Missouri. Other acts on the bill include In This Moment and New Years Day.
Korn singer Jonathan Davis acknowledged in a new interview that fans will likely have to wait another full year for the band’s follow-up to 2016’s The Serenity Of Suffering LP. Davis, who is promoting his recently released debut solo album, told WhatCulture, “(Guitarists] Head and Munky have been writing with a couple different producers, working on riffs and putting them down, cataloguing everything. We’re gonna get together as a band in July and start putting their ideas together in the studio and start working on it.”
Davis added, “So, yeah, it’s in the future, definitely. When I get back after this European (solo) run, I start writing vocals for the stuff that they’ve done. We’re gonna keep working through the year, so hopefully we’ll have one out, probably, this time next year.”
A three-year gap is not unusual for bands but is a bit longer than normal for Korn, who have reliably produced a new album every two years or so for most of its 24-year career.
Davis recently shot down rumors that the band was working with outside writers on new material, saying, “We’re writing everything; we’re still writing our own music.”
Korn will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its classic third album, Follow The Leader, by playing three U.S. concerts at the end of the summer. The shows will take place on September 12th at the Masonic in San Francisco, September 13th at the Palladium in Los Angeles, and September 15th at the Pearl Theater in Las Vegas.
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told GQ that a song he wrote and originally planned as a collaboration with the late David Bowie will see the light of day — but it will be recorded and released by a different, yet-to-be-announced band.
Grohl told the magazine that the song was in limbo for a long time after Bowie turned it down. He explained, “I tried for years, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. We tried it, kind of worked on it, then I actually contacted Bowie about doing it together for this movie soundtrack, that didn’t work out. He didn’t like the movie, it wasn’t me, it was the movie (laughs). Then I started working on it again, and I then gave it to another band, who hasn’t used it yet.”
When Grohl was asked which band would be recording the track, he refused to answer, saying, “I don’t want to spoil the surprise.” David Bowie passed away after a long battle with cancer in January of 2016, at the age of 69.
The Foos did get to play with Bowie years ago at his 50th birthday celebration. Drummer Taylor Hawkins told us that jamming with their musical idols has been one of the biggest perks of being in the band: “Not only do you get to just, like, pinch yourself — ‘Wow, I’m in the room with this person’ — but you also get to kind of try and soak up a little bit of what they do musically, you know. It’s neat. It really is amazing, and you really get to be in the presence of greatness when you’re with people like that.”
Foo Fighters will resume their current North American tour in support of the band’s 2017 LP Concrete And Gold on July 6th in Columbia, Maryland.
Avenged Sevenfold bassist Johnny Christ has revealed to Lou Brutus that the band is working on a new song for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 video game. Avenged Sevenfold previously worked with game publisher Activision on a song called “Carry On” for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 back in 2012.
Christ said about the new tune: “The song’s written, we’re recording it right now. We just took a break in the studio of recording it this last week. We’re gonna finish it up this coming week, and then it’ll go off to get mixed and mastered. And I believe sometime in July is when everyone will be hearing it for the first time.”
Christ added that the song was written specifically for the game and doesn’t have a name yet, while hinting that it will be “a little bit of a departure from what I think our fans would expect.”
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set for release on October 12th, 2018. Avenged Sevenfold will begin writing the follow-up to its 2016 album The Stage this fall. But first the California act will embark on a North America tour this summer with Prophets Of Rage and Three Days Grace.
That’s a wrap for today, have a great one everybody!
