Good morning Radicals! Here’s what’s up in music news to kick off your week;
Stone Sour has shared a new music video for the song “Knievel Has Landed,” the latest song to be released from the band’s 2017 album Hydrograd. The clip focuses on the band’s live show as it takes the viewer from the outside of the venue straight to the stage, where Stone Sour is delivering pyrotechnics — both musical and physical — to a packed house.
The video arrives ahead of the August 31st release of the deluxe edition of Hydrograd, which contains several B-sides, acoustic takes of “Song #3,” “Mercy,” “Rose Red Violent Blue” and “The Witness Tree,” live versions of “Mercy,” “Fabuless” and Soundgarden‘s “Outshined,” plus studio covers of Van Halen‘s “Unchained” and Rage Against The Machine‘s “Bombtrack.”
Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor told us a while back why recording covers is so appealing to the band: “They kind of show people like the different sides of the music that we all kind of bring in, you know, ’cause our musical tastes are very diverse. Where me and Roy (Mayorga, drums) are very much into punk rock, Josh (Rand, guitar) is into anything that’ll rip your head off and throw it into the audience, you know. So it’s a really good blend, and that’s kind of where our music comes from.”
Stone Sour will support Ozzy Osbourne on the initial North American leg of Ozzy’s “No More Tours 2” trek, which kicks off on Thursday (August 30th) in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Alice In Chains guitarist/singer Jerry Cantrell was asked in a new interview with Billboard for his thoughts on Degradation Trip, the epic solo album he made in 2002 with future Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo and Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin. Cantrell responded, “I was just really f**ked up back then to be honest with you, and you can totally hear it on that record.”
Cantrell continued, “It was done right before I got sober, and it was also done right when I was dealing with the death of my band, and then the unhappy coincidence of Layne (Staley, Alice In Chains frontman) passing away right after I released that record. So it was not a good time in my life, and it totally comes across on that record.”
Cantrell added, “It’s a record I don’t listen to a lot anymore because of all those things I mentioned,” revealing that he got sober a year after it was recorded. He continued, “But it’s a record that’s important to me, and I’ll see Robert and Mike every once in a while and they’re like, ‘We should do some f**king shows, man. Some Degradation Trip shows.’ (laughs) I tell ’em we’ll do it someday.”
Degradation Trip was Cantrell’s second solo outing, following 1998’s Boggy Depot. Alice In Chains regrouped in 2006 with William DuVall joining the band, and just released its third LP with DuVall in the lineup, Rainier Fog, this past Friday.
Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes said in a new interview with NME that the writing process for the band’s new album, Amo, served as therapy for him following his split with his then-wife in 2016. Sykes explained, “I really didn’t wanna talk about it, ’cause I don’t want it to seem like I care, or I didn’t wanna dredge up the past. I didn’t wanna give the person the ‘glory’ of writing stuff about that person and s**t like that.”
Sykes added, “But, after a while, it just became apparent that I kind of needed to — I needed to get it out of my system. It wasn’t the fact that I was still miserable or anything like that — I was fine — but at the same time, when you go through something traumatic, you carry a lot of stuff with you after it — a lot of mental baggage, a lot of things.”
The singer also stated that “not all” of Amo is about his divorce, remarking, “There’s good stuff, there’s bad stuff, there’s weird stuff. It’s kind of more almost like a thinking piece on love and how it can affect you — not just you, but other people too.” Sykes described the new disc as “a lot more experimental” than 2015’s That’s The Spirit.
Amo will be released on January 11th, 2019, with Bring Me The Horizon kicking off a tour on January 23rd in Nashville. The band has just shared a video for the first single, “Mantra.”
No. Almost 30 years ago he was given an honorary priesthood for his real world accomplishments at the time. That is not “ordained” nor is it related to anything he might say decades later.

In case you’ve ever wondered whether Marilyn Manson was truly as evil as he makes himself out to be, there may now be proof. For years it’s been rumored that Manson is an ordained priest in the Church of Satan, and now a member of that organization has stepped forward to clarify the shock rocker’s role in the self-proclaimed cabal.
During an exchange about Manson on Twitter, one user stated that Manson was an ordained Satanic priest. But someone at the Church itself saw the debate and responded, saying, “No. Almost 30 years ago he was given an honorary priesthood for his real world accomplishments at the time. That is not ‘ordained’ nor is it related to anything he might say decades later.”
Manson has been attacked by religious and moral watchdog groups throughout his career for his allegedly bad influence on fans. He told us a while back how he felt about such attacks: “They can’t find something illegal about what I say or do in my music. They just disagree with it morally because of their belief system. So, they have to create these lies to try and shut things down. It’s very sad.”
Manson is currently on tour with fellow shock rocker Rob Zombie, with the trek wrapping up this week in California. Manson has missed a couple of shows on the run due to, officially, “the flu” and “food poisoning.”
Green Day is continuing to tease fans with yet another post indicating that the band has been rehearsing one of its early albums from front to back. This time, it’s the band’s 1991 sophomore record Kerplunk!, which was the first to feature drummer Tre Cool and the band’s last effort for Lookout Records before signing a major deal with Reprise.
Cool took to his Instagram the other night to post the news that the trio had been rehearsing the LP, following earlier posts in which Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt revealed that the group had also been running through the complete track lists of 1994’s Dookie and 1995’s Insomniac.
Green Day has not offered any hints about what the practice sessions may entail, but fans initially theorized that a 25th anniversary Dookie tour could be in the works — until the Insomniac post led to speculation that the band could play both LPs back to back each night or alternate between the two albums from show to show.
Bassist Mike Dirnt told us how the band chooses what to play from its large back catalog: “It depends on the night, really. Depends on what we want to do. Some nights we want to pull out a marathon set and other nights we want to play a really concise set of our catalog that kind of peppers between everything. But you know, it’s definitely a good problem to have, is a big catalog of songs that you want to play it all.”
The inclusion of Kerplunk! in the mix should certainly unleash a whole new set of theories, which is probably just what Green Day wants. The band currently has nothing on its live schedule after completing the touring cycle for its 12th studio effort, 2016’s Revolution Radio.
We Came As Romans singer Kyle Pavone died on Saturday (August 25th) at the age of 28. According to TMZ, Pavone was transported to a Michigan hospital last Sunday (August 19th) and pronounced dead six days later. A cause of death for Pavone has yet to be determined, pending a toxicology report.
Pavone’s passing was revealed by his bandmates, who wrote in a statement, “Today, music lost another great with the passing of Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans. Kyle’s tragic loss came too early in his life and those of his bandmates. All are devastated by his passing. We will miss his smiles, his sincerity, his concern for others, and his impressive musical talent.”
The band added, “In lieu of flowers, we will provide information regarding charity donations this coming week. The family and the band wish to thank their fans and the music community for all of their love and support as they navigate their grief.”
We Came As Romans’ fifth album, Cold Like War, was released last October through SharpTone Records. The band was scheduled to embark on a U.S. tour in September as the support act for Bullet For My Valentine. Their 2013 LP, Tracing Back Roots, peaked at Number Eight on the Billboard 200 chart.
Finally, celebrating birthdays today are Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal, and We Came As Romans guitarist Lou Cotton. Damn, rough birthday Lou…
