Good morning Radicals! Hope everyone had a lovely labor day weekend.
Metallica kicked off the North American leg of their WorldWired tour on Sunday night, September 2nd at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The band hadn’t visited Madison since 2004 and it was their first time playing the Kohl Center.
The set list included: “Hardwired,” “Atlas, Rise!,” “Seek & Destroy,” “Cyanide,” “Fade To Black,” “Now That We’re Dead,” “Confusion,” “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” “Halo On Fire,” “Last Caress (MISFITS cover),” “Fuel,” “Moth Into Flame,” “Sad But True,” “One,” and “Master Of Puppets.” For an encore the group performed: “Spit Out The Bone,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and “Enter Sandman.”
Here’s a good portion of the show for those who couldn’t make it:
When Krist Novoselic’s band Giants in the Trees opened for the Foo Fighters at Seattle’s Safeco Field on Saturday night, September 1st, no one expected to see a mini Nirvana reunion. Dave Grohl invited Novoselic on stage during the Foo Fighters set and the duo performed Nirvana’s cover of The Vaselines‘ “Molly Lips.”
Grohl told the crowd, “This is an old song, we haven’t done this song together in a long time.” This is only the second time that Novoselic has joined the Foo Fighters to perform the song. They previously hooked up for a one off performance in Scotland, the home of The Vaselines, in September 2015.
Fans may get treated to another reunion at Cal Jam 2018 on October 16th in San Bernardino, California. Giants in the Trees and Foo Fighters are both on the festival bill.
Nirvana’s “Molly Lips” cover was included on their 1992 album, Incesticide.

On Sunday night, September 2nd, Pearl Jam kicked off two sold out shows at Boston’s Fenway Park. The group paid homage to the late Senator John McCain and Tom Petty. The group dedicated “Army Reserve” to McCain and other veterans. The song, which is from the perspective a woman with a husband who is serving in the Armed Forces, includes the line, “She tells herself and everyone else/Father is risking his life for our freedoms.”
Eddie Vedder shared a story about giving Petty a guitar that he was looking for and within two weeks, Petty paid back the favor by sending Vedder a red Fender Telecaster. The singer played the guitar during a solo rendition of “I Won’t Back Down.”
While the group didn’t mention President Trump during the performance, Vedder made the theme of the night clear when he improvised the words, “No more divisiveness, no more divisiveness,” during the group’s “Blood.”
Papa Roach is almost done with the follow up to last year’s Crooked Teeth with plans to release the new project “either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.” The group’s guitarist, Jerry Horton, told Morgan Richards Interviews that the band was about 85 percent done with the new album.
He said, “We’re at the point, I think, in our career where we want to . . . we’re really trying to explore more dynamics now and not just be a wall of guitars all the time. So you can do that, but if it’s loud all the time, then you don’t know when it’s supposed to be loud and when it’s supposed not to be loud. So we’re trying to balance and trying to get some more impact, and I think we started that off really well with the ‘Crooked Teeth’ song ‘Help’ . . . and ‘Born For Greatness’ was another one.”
Horton added, “We’re trying to imagine how it’s gonna go over live, when we write the song. So that’s kind of how ‘Born For Greatness’ happened, where we were just, like, ‘We want something that people can bounce to.’ So we’re continuing that on the next one. And it’s been really good.”
On Friday, August 31st, Nothing More fans received a Google notification that Jonny Hawkins, Mark Vollelunga, Daniel Oliver and Ben Anderson had released a new album, Game Of Truth. Fans were informed that the project was streaming on Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and Amazon. Unfortunately the new album is from another band named Nothing More.
The group said in a released statement, “We know Eminem dropped a surprise album the other day, but we did not. In fact, we were just as surprised by this album as you were . . . This is not a Nothing More album and we have no idea what happened, but we’re trying to figure that out now. But if it’s really good, let us know and we’ll take credit for it.”
Finally, we’d like to wish a Happy Birthday to Soundgarden‘s Kim Thayil, Asking Alexandria‘s Danny Worsnop, ex-Flyleaf vocalist Lacey Sturm and Red Sun Rising guitarist Ryan Williams! Happy Birthday to all!
