Good morning Radicals! Not sure how today can compare to yesterday’s reveal of the Tool album release date, but let’s see what we got:
Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge has confirmed to Revolver that he will return to the studio in January 2020 to begin work on the band’s follow-up to 2018’s Prequelle album.
Forge revealed his plans for the fifth Ghost studio LP, saying, “I want to make a different record from Prequelle. I want it to feel different . . . I definitely have a darker, heavier record in mind.” Forge added that Prequelle turned out to be “a little ballad heavy.”
Forge told us what he had learned about the songs on Prequelle from playing them live for much of the past year: “I’ve come to realize that the songs on the record are very diverse. Not that I didn’t understand that before, but I’ve definitely felt it now, playing them. Definitely a lot of the Prequelle material is varied, which I like. It fits very well into a live set that is very long.”
Prequelle debuted last June at Number Three on the Billboard 200 chart. It has yielded the chart-topping “Rats” and “Dance Macabre,” a well as the new single “Faith.”
The band will embark on a North American tour this fall in support of the disc, starting on September 13th in Bakersfield, California and wrapping on October 26th in Glens Falls, New York.
Blink-182 has released a new single, “Blame It On My Youth,” along with an accompanying lyric video created by renowned graffiti artist RISK. The track is the first new music issued by the band since the release of its 2016 album California and also its first effort through a brand new recording deal with Columbia Records.
The song is the first taste of the band’s upcoming eighth studio album, and its second with guitarist Matt Skiba, who replaced original member Tom DeLonge in 2015. No release date or title had been announced at press time.
Blink-182 will hit the road stateside this summer on a nationwide tour with co-headliner Lil Wayne. The North American trek will kick off on June 28th in Columbus, Ohio and hit an additional 37 dates through September, closing out on the 16th of that month in Cincinnati.
The tour will see the punk trio and the rapper play both indoor and outdoor venues with support from Neck Deep. To celebrate the upcoming tour, Blink-182 and Lil Wayne got together to record an announcement video featuring a mash-up of their hits “What’s My Age Again?” and “A Milli.”
Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday (May 10th) at noon local time at LiveNation.com.
Alice In Chains will apparently take time off after the completion of the band’s summer tour with Korn. Speaking with Bionic Buzz while participating on Monday (May 6th) at a charity golf tournament in Toluca Lake, California, guitarist Jerry Cantrell said, “The album we put out last year, Rainier Fog, by the time we’re done, we’ll have spent about two solid years on the road, which the Korn tour will be the end.”
Asked if Alice In Chains will make another album after the summer tour or take a break, Cantrell responded: “We’ll take some time off.”
Cantrell told us a while back that Alice In Chains never archives unused material and starts from scratch on every record: “You should start from a zero every time. You’ve got a blank canvas, and you and your band are in the room and there’s the canvas and there’s no other pictures of the old albums hanging up. You know, those are put away in a closet somewhere, so you’re not thinking about them or drawing from them or trying to repeat them or whatever. It’s impossible to do that. That is what it was, now what do we do?”
Alice In Chains’ co-headlining tour with Korn will kick off on July 18th in Del Valle, Texas, wrapping up on September 4th in Mountain View, California.
Rainier Fog was Alice In Chains’ sixth studio LP and first in five years. It features the rock radio hits “The One You Know” and “Never Fade.”
Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett slipped and fell during the band’s concert on Wednesday night (May 8th) in Milan, Italy. The incident happened during the guitar solo in the song “Moth Into Flame.” Hammett was soloing with his right foot on the guitar effects pedal board when he slipped and fell backwards, hitting the ground with his feet high above his head.
Luckily he appeared uninjured, laughing off the spill for a moment before picking himself up and continuing to play the track.
Immediately following the show, Hammett took to his Instagram to post video of his fall from two different angles, writing, “Ummm — I slipped on my wet wah pedal. It rained so much I felt like I was playing guitar in the shower – #slipperywhenwet #wahwahwah #metallicafamily #Metinmilan @metallica”
Milan was the fourth gig of the spring/summer 2019 European leg of Metallica’s “Worldwired” tour, which kicked off on May 1st in Lisbon, Portugal. The band has played more than 130 shows across the world since kicking off the tour in late 2016.
