Good morning Radicals! We’re halfway through the week, and hardDriveRadio is here to keep you going! Let’s look into the world of rock news:
Hellyeah and In This Moment singer Maria Brink have both been added to the lineup of ShipRocked 2020. Brink will perform her first-ever solo piano lounge set as the rock music cruise sets sail for its 11th year from February 1st through February 6th. The Carnival Valor will depart from New Orleans, with stops in Key West, Florida and Cozumel on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
Brink said in a statement, “I am so excited to be doing ShipRocked this year. And not only doing it again, but doing it by myself this year, I think, is going to bring something so unique and special, and a different side of me that no one has ever seen before. I can’t wait to see everybody again and have everyone experience this with me.”
Hellyeah frontman Chad Gray added, “We’re looking forward to living that castaway life, performing up close and personal for our fans, and hanging out with good friends in a more relaxed vacation-like environment on ShipRocked‘s 11th voyage!”
Also appearing on the 2020 voyage will be Halestorm, Alter Bridge, Asking Alexandria, Badflower, Beartooth, Black Stone Cherry, Dead Sara, Of Mice & Men and more, while the cruise’s all-star band The Stowaways will feature members of Bush, Drowning Pool, Sevendust, Fear Factory, Breaking Benjamin, Fuel, The Cult, Nothing More, Evanescence and others.
Metallica frontman James Hetfield has donated his collection of 10 highly regarded custom cars to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Additionally, Hetfield was named a Founding Member of the museum, an honor reserved for its most generous donors.
Hetfield’s collection includes Voodoo Priest, based on a ’37 Lincoln Zephyr, a ’36 Auburn roadster named Slow Burn, a Delahaye inspired ’34 Packard named Aquarius, a ’36 Ford in bare metal called Iron Fist, a purple ’56 Ford F-100 pickup truck, and three cars by custom fabricator Rick Dore: a custom 1948 Jaguar called Black Pearl, a ’52 Olds named Grinch, and a 1953 Buick Skylark known as Skyscraper.
The announcement was made at the museum’s annual press conference. The Hetfield cars will go on display next February, along with artifacts and memorabilia from Hetfield and Metallica’s private collections.
Hetfield is a longtime auto enthusiast who has also displayed a number of his vehicles at Metallica’s now-defunct Orion Music + More festival. He told us a while back that he worries whenever any of his cars go out on tour, either with him or to an auto show: “I actually have worries that when my car travels to somewhere, you know, goes on tour in Europe, you know, that it comes back with pings and scratches and you have no idea where or how they happened.”
Finally, we want to wish a Happy Birthday to System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian!
