Ghost has released a surprise new single, “Kiss The Go-Goat,” along with an accompanying video that channels a heavy 1960s psychedelic vibe. The song will be included on a new limited-edition seven-inch single which will be released on September 27th. “Kiss The Go-Goat” will be backed by another new song, “Mary On A Cross.”
The video opens with “Papa Nihil” complaining about the lack of Grammy nominations in the Cardinal Copia era of the band as Sister Imperator insists he’s not looking at the “big picture.” She warns him to remember what happened “last time,” after which we see grainy footage of a 50-year-old video that turns out to be a song from a 1969 version of Ghost in which Papa still sang lead.
Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge told us that his love for the music of the 1960s comes from his mom: “My mom, she’s born in 1942, so she was — is — part of the ’60s, you know. She gave me the whole Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix — all that.”
Ghost continues to support its fourth LP, Prequelle, and will launch a North American tour on Friday (September 13th) in Bakersfield, California. It wraps on October 26th in Glens Falls, New York.
Papa Roach has shared a touching video for the song “Come Around,” in which the band spotlights one of its biggest fans, Mark Moreno, who has been listening to the group since 2000 and has attended more than 50 Papa Roach shows in his life.
The video highlights how Papa Roach’s music has helped Moreno through some of the hardest times of his life as well as some of the best moments. Singer Jacoby Shaddix says at the start of the clip, “This music gives me a connection to something bigger than myself. This music connects me with people. This music gives me purpose.”
The main portion of the clip focuses on Moreno’s life and how Papa Roach’s music has been there throughout both good and bad times. It ends on an emotional note with Shaddix inviting Moreno onstage, where he gives him a Papa Roach platinum award in honor of his late sister as well as lifetime passes to see the band anywhere for free.
Shaddix added, “Personally, it’s my life experience of being on both sides of the song: being the person that needed help, and being the person that has reached out and given somebody help. . . . Lyrically, this track’s about sticking with your friend through thick and thin, or your loved one, as they’re spiraling out.”
Papa Roach will kick off a new tour next week as direct support to Shinedown, beginning on September 19th in Bristow, Virginia.
Nickelback bassist Mike Kroeger has told the Ottawa Citizen that there are no concrete plans for the band to return to the studio anytime soon to make the follow-up to 2017’s Feed The Machine album.
Kroeger explained, “There’s no timeline right now. We’re kind of taking things easy and taking things day by day. We’re not on any kind of deadline, timeline; there’s no business or financial consideration; we don’t have a drop-dead date where someone is standing there, tapping their foot saying, ‘Give us a record by this time.’”
Upon its June 2017 release, Feed The Machine landed at Number Five on the Billboard 200 chart. The last seven Nickelback albums have all bowed within the Top 10 on that survey, a run that began with the Number Two premiere of Silver Side Up in 2001.
Frontman Chad Kroeger told us a while back that Nickelback has been enjoying its success for a long time: “We’ve got the best gig in the world. We chased our dream, and we caught it, and we’ve been able to do it for a long time now. I’ve been saying for the last 10 years of our career, ‘Hey, the longer we can extend this ride, the happier we get to be.’ I don’t want someone else to tell us it’s over, you know. I’d rather us say, ‘We’ve done everything we want to do in this career.’”
Nickelback’s next scheduled live performance is at Rock In Rio in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 6th, alongside Muse, Imagine Dragons and others.
Slash is getting his very own doubleneck guitar from legendary instrument makers Gibson. The company has announced the Slash 1966 EDS-1275 Doubleneck. A pre-sale is officially underway now for the axe, which will be sold through select authorized Gibson dealers and available in-store on October 1st.
The Guns N’ Roses guitarist bought his original 1966 EDS-1275 Doubleneck from a small music store in Indiana in 1990 and began using it extensively after that. Gibson is now presenting an exact replica of the original guitar, constructed and aged by the craftspeople at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville.
Each Slash 1966 EDS-1275 Doubleneck will be hand-signed by Slash himself and includes a vintage replica hardshell case, a custom Slash concho guitar strap and a Certificate of Authenticity.
Slash and his solo band, Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, are winding down the touring cycle in support of their most recent studio album, last year’s Living The Dream. A concert LP and DVD titled Living The Dream Tour will arrive on September 20th. Slash will head back on tour with Guns N’ Roses later this month.
