Tried to catch some of the Super Bowl XLVIII and outdoor events that have come to NYC and the Times Square area, but it’s been too damn cold! Toboggan run looks fun, but the lines are ridiculous. I want to try to get up to 46th Street to see the Vince Lombardi trophy. But alas, too many people. But two events I am not missing are The Black Keys tomorrow night and Foo Fighters on Saturday! Ah New York!…..So top news story is Stone Temple Pilots decided to cancel their appearances at next month’s Soundwave Festival in Australia and New Zealand in order to concentrate on recording. I think that’s ok. Their time frame for working together is weird, since it’s more about Chester‘s Linkin Park schedule, who also have an album ready to drop in the coming months. So full speed ahead, boys, full speed ahead!….Speaking of the Super Bowl, Pulse of Radio reports it’s official: the Red Hot Chili Peppers are not playing the live version of Led Zeppelin‘s “Dazed And Confused” during the Super Bowl halftime show this Sunday (Feb 2nd). Drummer Chad Smith was asked what the band was going to play during an interview on a red carpet last Sunday (Jan 26th) and joked they would unleash the extended tune, which Zeppelin would often stretch out for 30 minutes or more in concert. Apparently, however, some websites took Smith’s comments seriously, which he told us left him amazed: “Some journalists are very, very gullible. I was at a Grammy party…’So, you’re doing the Super Bowl, what song are you gonna play?’ I can’t really like talk about that, it’s supposed to be a surprise, so I’m like, ‘Oh, doing the live version of “Dazed And Confused” by Led Zeppelin.’ (laughs) And they ran with it! Really? Anyone who knows anything about the Super Bowl and/or music should know Led Zeppelin does a very long version, the Super Bowl is 12 minutes long, and we’re just the special guest.” Smith will be playing a special custom drum kit that will be auctioned off after the game to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Smith told Los Angeles radio station KROQ the kit “lights up and changes colors and has all of the NFL team logos on it.” The Chili Peppers will also headline the “Big Hello To Brooklyn” show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday (Feb 1st), the night before Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off at MetLife Stadium…. Hellyeah will release its fourth studio album, this time produced by Kevin Churko, on May 15th, according to an interview conducted by DDrum earlier this week with drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. The former Pantera member said the record was completed in mid-January, with Hellyeah scheduled to start touring on April 12th in Phoenix. The new CD follows up 2011’s Band Of Brothers. (Blabbermouth)….Black Sabbath is teaming with a British label called Secret 7-Inch to release 100 copies of a single featuring the song “Age Of Reason” from Sabbath’s latest album, 13. Proceeds from the sale of the single will go to aid War Child UK. Each copy of the limited edition single comes with one-of-a-kind artwork chosen from a number of different artists. (Brave Words)…Jane’s Addiction has booked a 3 night stand in Las Vegas May 8-10 at a venue called The Brooklyn Bowl. Who doesn’t want to spend 3 days in Vegas, I mean, really?….Happy 40 to actor Christian Bale.
