Welcome back to reality! Now that everyone’s back from the Labor Day holiday weekend, it’s time to dig back in. Let’s kick it off with the days’ music news.
Disturbed‘s single “No More” has landed at Number One on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, giving the Chicago act its seventh straight chart-topper on the survey, a feat unmatched by any artist. The song is the third single from the band’s 2018 album Evolution.
Disturbed has a total of 10 Number Ones on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Three Days Grace holds the record with 15, followed by Shinedown with 14 and Van Halen with 13.
Disturbed singer David Draiman told Metal Hammer about the inspiration for “No More,” saying, “The powers of this world are always trying to justify another reason for us killing each other. There’s always someone we have to fear, there’s always another battle we have to go and fight, and they continue to profit off it. So it’s just encouraging people to see through the narrative.”
Guitarist Dan Donegan told us a while back that Disturbed always wants to push itself in new directions musically: ”If you’re an artist and you’re painting on a canvas, you don’t want to keep painting the same picture over and over. We push ourselves to new things to try to continue to inspire. It’s always challenging to not be repetitive on things, so we’re always pushing each other to try to do different things. We come in with an open mind and I think that’s why we have continued to evolve with the music over the years.”
Disturbed will return to the road later this month when the band kicks off a new leg of North American tour dates on September 19th in Estero, Florida, with support from In This Moment.
A Guns N’ Roses fan site called Guns Over Oz claims that the band has been approached to write and record a new song for the upcoming movie Terminator: Dark Fate, the latest in the long-running series about an ongoing war between humans and cyborgs.
The site explained, “A source who was working on Terminator: Dark Fate has informed that four members of Guns N’ Roses went to a private viewing of a rough copy of the upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger sequel movie to see if they want to put a song on the soundtrack.”
The report added, “Apparently, Slash was at Axl’s house to record overdubs on a song for the rush release. At this point the song name is unknown. But yes 100% verified. Guns N’ Roses new music.”
Ever since Axl, Slash and Duff McKagan reunited in 2016 as Guns N’ Roses, rumors have been circulating that new music from the band — the first to feature the three founding members since 1993 — could be in the works. Slash, McKagan and other members of the touring lineup have also hinted at the possibility of a new LP.
The classic Guns track “You Could Be Mine” was used as the theme song for the second film in the series, 1991′s Terminator: Judgment Day, and was released as the first single from the band’s double-album Use Your Illusion set that same year.
Motley Crue will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its 1989 album Dr. Feelgood by reissuing the disc on November 29th. The anniversary edition will feature the original album along with studio demos. The deluxe edition will include the LP on “coke bottle green” vinyl, CD, three seven-inch picture discs, a doctor’s bag, a prescription notepad, a deck of playing cards, a pair of drumstick pens, pin badges and guitar picks.
Originally released on September 1st, 1989, Dr. Feelgood reached Number One on the Billboard 200 chart and sold more than seven million copies worldwide. The title track was one of five hit singles take from the album, earning the band its first Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance. A later single, “Kickstart My Heart,” was nominated in the same category in 1990.
Bassist Nikki Sixx said, “After feeling robbed of a Number One album with (1987′s) Girls Girls Girls, the band was hell bent on topping ourselves on every level. Bringing in Bob Rock to produce and push us musically and lyrically was just what the doctor ordered . . . The band was clean, lean and sober and this album has some of our proudest work.”
Drummer Tommy Lee told us that making the album was one of the best experiences of the band’s career: ”It’s a great record. The vibe was cool. Aerosmith was recording next door, I think they were working on Pump, and it was just like that the energy was incredible. And we just like all went and focused, nobody was distracted, you know how that goes, and it was just one of those good times.”
Motley Crue has been largely inactive since 2015, when the band embarked on what was billed as its final world tour. However, the film adaptation of the band’s biography, The Dirt, premiered earlier this year on Netflix and featured four newly recorded songs by the group.
Finally, we want to wish a Happy Birthday to Rage Against the Machine & Prophets of Rage drummer Brad Wilk!
